I have yet to see the new Trek film but I'm really geeked out about the possibility of a new KAAAAAAAAHN!! The possibilities are very interesting.

Does this mean that Spock can warn Pike not get himself burned so he doesn’t have to live out his days in funky wheelchair on Talos IV?

In this new future, Sulu will be gay, Kirk will do Priceline.Com commercials, and Nimoy will do a TV series called “In Search Of...”

“Alex Kurtzman told us of the newly established parallel “Trek” dimension, forever altered by the reckless actions of time-travelling villain Nero”

What is it with using villain names from history or literature? Nero, Sauron (ST7), are we too stupid to figure out who is bad?

Wow, you gotta see the new film. And bring your lady, mine had seen only a few of the original series and NONE of the movies (I have cajoled her to do so repeatedly over the last two years since I have been with her!) and she liked the new movie!

I'm an old-school fan who loved waiting each week back in the Sixties with my buddies to see each new episode each week, and discuss it in the lunchroom the next day!

They actually copied many of the elements from the original series.

Kirk getting spock emotionally riled up in order to save the ship - (the episode with the poison flowers causing hapiness and resistance to bertold radiation)

McCoy drugging kirk to save him - Amok Time

scotty beaming dogs in experiments - kirk’s worst enemy

spock being taunted by kids as a kid - yesteryear from animated series.

sulu into fencing

I think the sequel will be more big screen variations of star trek elements we have seen elsewhere. Even “alternative timelines” where spock is captain and kirk is first officer appeared in TOS based paperback books.

>>> “I’m already going back and reading some of the books I’ve missed,” he said of “Trek” tales and fan-fiction that have been written in past years, which could be reinterpreted for their new universe. “I’m trying to read every ‘Star Trek’ book I can get my hands on. We did that a lot for the first movie. ... I’m starting to re-immerse myself again in what’s come before.” <<<

I call B.S. I’d be very surprised in the ST:TOS novels had much of an influence on the unoriginal 2009 movie, or will have much of an effect on the sequel. Some of those novels were good reads, and had an original take or two...

>>> KAAAAAAAAHN!! <<<

KAAAAAAAAHN!! = Yaaawwwwn!!! Another retread! And if we have to stick with retreads — which is doubtless now unavoidable with the “Back to the Future” premise of the franchise reboot — there are a LOT of characters and situations from the original series that have yet to be seen on the big screen. Why bother to re-make a movie sequel to an episode of TOS?

Well, “why bother” unless you’ve completely run out of ideas...

It is a really fun movie. I plan on seeing it again. Not sure anyone else could play Khan though.

One thing to expect after seeing Vulcan destroyed. The new Federation better be a LOT more militant about dealing with threats. 6 billion dead Vulcans? Cultures are getting wiped in retaliation.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some killer bad a$$ war sequences showing photon torpedoe bombardment of a planet surface or something equally vicious.

Also Khan .... why? In this universe he has yet to be met. The Klingon wars should be a hell of a lot more interesting. Federation (now in REALLY pissed off mode) versus the Klingons.
