Dick Cheney said Tuesday that he's not going to "roll over" while Democrats accuse the Bush administration of breaking the law with its anti-terror policies.
The former vice president defended his decision to stay in the public eye during an interview Tuesday on FOX News, his latest appearance in a media blitz since leaving office.
Cheney, who has taken heat for remaining so vocal, told FOX News that the Obama administration is "dismantling" the national security policies that kept the country safe since the Sept. 11 attacks.
He said he continues to speak out to combat the mounting criticism of Bush-era interrogation policies and weigh in on what he called the "outrageous" debate over whether to punish the officials involved with designing those policies.
"I don't think we should just roll over when the new administration ... accuses us of committing torture, which we did not, or somehow violating the law, which we did not," Cheney said. "I think you need to stand up and respond to that, and that's what I've done."
The former vice president has over the past several weeks suddenly has become aggressively outspoken despite the transition to post-White House life.
His comments to FOX News Tuesday were just the latest in a string of appearances in which he has accused the new administration of putting the country at a greater risk of terrorist attack by rolling back policies from the Bush administration.
With his prominence, Cheney has effectively switched places with former President George W. Bush, who quietly left behind his eight tumultuous years in office and returned to Texas, moving into a new home in Dallas.
Cheney is emerging as the face and voice of the administration following two terms in which he influenced policy from behind the scenes and away from the cameras.

The man who should have been president.
Where’s Bush?
(No need to answer.)
Glad somebody in the GOP has some stones. Seems nobody else will stand up for what we believe in, strong defense especially.
Yes, now I really wish the Democrats had impeached Bush or forced him to resign.
Cheney would have been much better.
So...where exactly are elected GOP when it comes to pushing back against Obama? Are they all on a listening tour? Why is all the heavy lifting left to Dick Cheney and radio talk show hosts?
Cheney and his daughter are out there telling the truth, defending the actions of an entire country, and where is everyone else to stand with them? Not one Senator, not one GOP representative, governor or former high level Bush official have stood with them. Lynn Jr., what an articulate young woman. God Bless the Cheney’s, and now come on Papa Bush and your son, get out there and take up the flag.
Maximus should be dropped
“God, I love Dick Cheney.
The man who should have been president.”
In hindsight, as much as I respect George W. Bush, Dick Cheney would have been a better POTUS.
Thank God SOMEONE besides Rush is effectively standing up to sniveling, snarling leftists these days.
Because Cheney knows how to kick butt and take names?
< /halfjoking>
I saw her today on FOX, she was great.
“Wheres Bush?”
Rolled over.
If Cheney is on a “media blitz”, then what is THE messiah on?
In our cafeteria we bet on the exact minute his goofy mug appears on CNN. And BTW, the people who keep saying he is “so attractive” and all that BS are deranged, or they have eye problems. Plus, I think he’s on crack.
over here!
Bush2 was just window dressing. :-)
