One in ten patients still admitted to mixed sex wards: survey (Socialized Medicine)

Ten per cent of patients admitted for planned treatment shared a sleeping area with the opposite sex along with 29 per cent of those admitted as an emergency, according to one of the largest surveys of hospital patients.

Thirty per cent of patients said they shared a bathroom or shower area with the opposite sex, a proportion which has not improved in the last year, the survey from the watchdog the Care Quality Commission found.

Labour promised to abolish mixed sex accommodation in the 1997 and 2001 election manifestos.

Other problems included poor quality food, being disturbed at night by noise, having to wait for call bells to be answered and lack of help with meals when needed.

Patients also reported that they were not as involved in decisions about their care as they would want and around half did not receive copies of letters sent between GPs and hospital consultants regarding their care.

Four in ten patients said they were delayed in leaving hospital, mostly due to waiting for medication, which has got worse since 2005 and the number of people intending to complain about their care rose from seven per cent in 2007 to eight per cent last year.

And sharing a bathroom or shower area with someone who is afflicted with same sex desire is okay because...?

Geeze...to hell with stories about how trannies need to share a bathroom with normal people.....what about the fact that the average Brit and Canadian has to wait 18 months for a hip replacement and several months to begin cancer chemotherapy.

On surgical wards one can easily end up with an opposite sex roomie. Doesn’t always happen but depending on how many folks are on the floor it is not unheard of. Has happened to me twice. Not a big deal. For goodness sake, you in the friggin hospital feeling like crap. Who cares who is in the bed next to you?
