I have a 2005 fifth-wheel and there is no way that I would put it in this kind of jeopardy.
I think this line states the “view” of the author of this article...
Wouldn’t you love to see how the trip went? Good chance he ended up doing some unintended off roading somewhere.
LOL!
I suspect that he's no more impressed by this than you are.
One really hopes the driver of this "rig" only meant to drag the trailer to the next street over.....
Even if only moving it one block over, as you suggest, could end up “costing” 2 shocks, 2 springs...possibly a differential, and two sets of wheel bearings, and I don’t know what else..a new tailgate perhaps
Do you think a load that large might cause the engine or transmission of a car to overheat?
Wow, that one’s right up there with the pics of that poor VW Jetta, piled high with sheets of plywood.
OMG, that’s scary. I wonder how well the pin on the trailer tongue fits into the ashtray?
I was expecting by the title for this to be someone who used duct tape.
Ethnic engineering ping
You assumptions are correct. I was impressed by the creativity, but certainly not by the actual use of the ultra dangerous and moronic contraption.
Don’t laugh. Duct tape can do anything!
I love that show. My wife hates it, can’t figure why.
My dad is proof of that.. he makes Tim the Toolman look like a Yuppie.
That hitch rig made me think “Red Green” instantly. And the hi-jinks that very likely followed.
I had a 19’ Sea Ray on a trailer doing about 55Mph when the fishtailing started. Slowed down immediately, heard the bang, looked in my rear-view and saw the boat (still in the trailer) suddently list hard to starboard. Not a second later I could feel I was dragging, and out of the passenger window of the truck I could see a wheel bouncing down the road ahead of me. All kind of comical until you get to the part where the rim and tire combo (guesstimate at 80 pounds) going highway speed rams into a car. Fortunately no one was hurt.
I can only imagine what a 5th wheel, even at low speed, would do once it breaks free from this highly engineered solution. It won’t be pretty.
The mind works in mysterious ways. LOL
