Liz Cheney: 'Fantasies' being spread about former VP
Politico ^ | 5-17-09

Liz Cheney said Sunday that some of the stories in print about her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, were "fantasies" cooked up by some of his old Bush administration rivals.

Responding to a question about Dick Cheney's role in pushing for aggressive interrogations, Liz Cheney pointed to Lawrence Wilkerson, the chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, for spreading inaccurate information about her father.

Wilkerson "has made a cottage industry of fantasies about the vice president," she said on ABC's "This Week."

"It's important to look at the source" of media reports, Cheney said. "Nobody talking about this in the press has any real knowledge."

"It's important for us to have all the facts out," she added. "Look at what the facts are. Three people were waterboarded."

No clearer measure of Colin Powell's opportunism and spotty character than those he chose to be closest to him, Lawrence Wilkerson and Richard Armitage, the Plame leaker, who let Scooter Libby blow in the wind (with his boss's knowledge).

Liz Cheney can hold her own with anybody in a debate. Reminds me of her mother Lynn who used to do battle on CNN’s Crossfire years ago as the Conservative voice, and she was terrific.

I totally agree. Liz was powerful and a welcomed voice on that program, given George Snuffalufagus's obviously biased positions.

Read Schwartzkopfs biography, then read Powells. I was amazed by Powells. He was basically a staff type, who by virtue of race and not speaking ebonics, was assigned an endless array of DC and educational posts. In the only combat unit he ever was given command of, he was rated poorly by his Commander. He had been assigned that post over several *far more* qualified officers.
His book mainly revolves around the creation of a Buffalo Soldier memorial at Ft Leavenworth. A nice thing, but he calls it the greatest accomplishment of his career.

His autobiography reveals him as thoughtful, but still a whiner with a well developed sense of Afro-grievance/entitlement. He doesnt have a conservative bone in his body.

If anyone admires Powell much, i encourage them to read Schwartzkopfs, then Powell’s Bio back to back. The differences are huge. Desert Storm was clearly won in spite of Powell, not because of him as that shameless self promoter has convinced people.

Liz Cheney is definitely the daughter of the Cheney’s — I am impressed with how she holds her ground in interviews which are more like debates. Dick and Lynn Cheney have to be extremely proud of their daughter for speaking out against lies.

In his utterly shallow egotism and arrogance, he selectively overlooks the fact that his career (and consequential wealth and standing) was made by Republicans. But we don’t.
