Or late Sixties China, when Red Guards ran amok. They harrassed my uncle to the point of suicide after they found out he had attended NC State for textile engineering (and actually liked the US). The incriminating evidence they used at his “self-criticism” sessions were photos on campus of him enjoying Big Band music and sports events. Apparently the red Wolfpack color didn’t win the little Commies over.

You don’t have to go back that far. It it the German Stazi of the 1980’s or the neighborhood “minders” in China who snoop on everyone and inform the government of “suspicious behavior”.
