France's First Lady said that the Church's teachings had left her feeling "profoundly secular". She departed from her post's traditional religious neutrality to accuse the Pope of "damaging" countries in Africa with his stance on birth control.

You gotta love these supposed Catholics.

Yes she left the faith because of the Pope's stance on condoms.

The fact that she married a divorced man and is now considered an adulterer by the Church had nothing to do with that. Or the tons of premarital sex she had while modeling and before meeting her present husband could not possibly have anything at all to do with her dislike of her past faith.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is she not divorced as well?

But it's the condoms of course.

Miss Bruni left her faith a looong time ago, and it didn't have a darn thing to do with Africa and condoms.

When I hear about people saying that the Church needs to evolve, they are usually in a lifestyle that doesn't agree with it. The Catholic church is not going to evolve to the point of accepting your lifestyle Miss Bruni, so stick it.

Hey Bruni! You want people to have condoms? Buy them yourself. Why must you insist that the Church agree with you?

This is absurd of course. If she’s proud of her lifestyle, than she should be able to define it in positive terms. If she’s not, then she ought not to try and have it both ways by living as she does while blaming the Pope for it.

The fact that she married a divorced man and is now considered an adulterer by the Church

Isn't that a bit harsh and unrealistic?

Well I guess that settles it. Between this and the monkey skull story on Drudge, the logical conclusion would be that there is no God, man is no different than an playtpus, abortion is OK, marriage is whatever any group of people or animals want it to be, and Bill Maher is funny.

But there is no other way to prevent AIDS don’t you know.

Oh I’m sorry, teaching people to stop behaving like
animals and not have sex with tons of partners just does not work!

So we must furnish these countries with condoms at our expense or else it’s all our fault!

Bruni is like a lot of the former Catholics on FR and throughout America who left the faith for some lame excuse. These clowns have about as much credibility as a screen door on a submarine. They can't "stand the heat; so they bail out."

No it isn't.

If Sarkozy was married in the Church the first time, and she married him knowing this, than yes she is considered a adulterer by the church's standards.

Hey that's not my call, that's the Catholic church's call. I can't disagree with the logic of the church's decision regarding this however.

You gotta love these supposed Catholics.

I give her credit it's better than staying a Catholic and then trying to change the supposed word of God to be more inline with one's personal preferences.

Yeah. We really care what a former fashion model says - as opposed to somebody who is probably one of the two or three most brilliant people of this century. Sadly, however, the press does care more about what she says, and in fact most people now know more about her than about him.
