More stockpiling ammunition: Fear of potential Obama laws causing mass sales

Every day, Darren Newsom's three Bitterroot Valley Ammunition facilities crank out 300,000 rounds of ammunition.

It's not nearly enough.

“I'm going about 100,000 rounds in the wrong direction every day,” Newsom said. “We probably have about six months of back orders right now.”

Newsom has been in the ammunition manufacturing business for more than 20 years and he's never seen demand this high.

Fearful of the Obama administration's potential to tighten gun control laws, people from all over the country are stocking up on guns and ammunition.

“I went through the Clinton years and there was a bit of a scare then,” Newsom said. “This is like the Clinton years on steroids. On the day of the election, our phones started going nuts. It hasn't stopped since.”

As a master distributor for ATK - the world's largest ammunition business - Bitterroot Valley Ammunition supplies other ammunition manufacturers around the country with the components needed to make bullets.

“I get a million primers in every other day and most are shipped out the very next day,” he said. “I have 100 million primers on back order right now. We just can't get enough of them.”

At a recent gun show in Salt Lake City, Newsom sold somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 rounds in the first two hours.

“It's just unreal,” he said. “Somewhere in lots of basements around the country, there are millions of rounds of ammunition being stored.”

Local businesses have felt the ammunition shortage.

At Bob Ward's in Hamilton, Mike Matteson said there has been quite a run on ammunition and reloading supplies like bullets and powder since the election.

“We are especially low right now with pistol ammunition,” Matteson said. “There are four or five calibers that we don't even have on our shelves.”

"Yup. I hope the Democrats are reading this VERY clear signal from the American people that they will be pushed only so far, and no farther, and that the tipping point is VERY, VERY close."

I think that you're hoping for far more vision than they can muster. The essence of statism is the denial of the obvious.

Dang! I wonder how much it would cost to set up an ammo factory.

“If the people arent afraid of the govt, then why is it that while people are cutting back on everything else, theyre buying guns and ammo like its going out of style?”

That’s easy. It isn’t that the people fear the government so much as they don’t trust it.

"#4 or #1 Buck will penetrate to the spinal cord but not overpenetrate within a neighborhood causing injuries to innocents."

Many moons ago I read an article by a "white hunter" type who guided big game hunts. He was the "backup" to take out the game in case the prime hunter missed. He said the best was #1 buckshot--better than 00. I believe he was talking about jaguar hunts, but it was certainly one of the big cat breeds as the game.

People are willing to pay far more than what the products are worth.

That statement is internally contradictory.

I saw a gun dealer or TV the other day who said he put up BO’s picture with an “Employee of the Month” award.

ROFLMAO! Now that's a salesperson!

PS: A cop once told me that a person can be nearly ‘cut in half’ by being shot with #4 shot from a 12 gauge at close range. He said that the big stuff like buck shot and slugs wasn’t even necessary for home defense.

Don't believe it. Birdshot can cause nasty-looking surface damage but doesn't penetrate deeply enough to reliably stop a person.

I don't load my 12 gauge with anything smaller than #1 buckshot...FBI tests show that it will penetrate 12" of ballistic gelatin at close range. That'll do.

“. Lots of .22LR out there too. Bargain!”

Where are you finding .22LR?

We get a pittance here. Ammo shelves empty.

People have enough ammo on hand now that they are beginning to lose their fear of the gubmint.
__________
I think you are right. That’s what the government fears. If you fear your government then you are in deep sh*t already. They should fear us. They work for us, we don’t work for them.

They figure they are going to need it? They sense our national security sucks since 1/20/09 and they suspect we have a brutal tyrant in the WH perhaps?

I read here recently a quote of 1.5 billion rounds sold in December alone.

Which explains why the wholesale/retail inventory has generally gone to zero.

I would like to know whether or not these people (oath keepers) believe that there are domestic enemies that our republic needs to be defended from RIGHT HERE AND NOW. To me this seems simple, our constitution has already been gutted, and the fedgov is severely overstepping its bounds. At what point do veterans and service people stand up and say “no more”?

I guess I just don’t understand why nothing has occurred yet when revolution occurred over much less in the past.

The oath Keepers looks great - I just wonder what they deem action worthy...

Be careful when ordering large amounts.

Big Brother is watching, and waking up to the fact the people are not very happy in places. Expect some crack downs soon.
