Powell pretty much destroyed his credibility regarding setting Republican priorities when he voted for the most Left Wing presidential candidate in history because of his melanin content.

I personally don’t think Powell ought to leave the Republican Party if he doesn’t want to, but he ought to at least recognize the fecklessness, inexperience and ideological/partisan baggage of the administration and Congress he endorsed and voted for and be cognizant of the probable consequences, which Powell has given no indication that he is doing.

“Rush will not get his wish and Mr. Cheney was misinformed – I am still a Republican,”

Prove it Mr AA General ... you spent 15+ years as an officer in the fight against communism. Denounce the Communist in Chief and I'll still consider you a republican.

Powell’s endorsement of Obama was a huge no-no if he still thinks of himself as a Republican.

I thinks he allowed race to be the deciding factor....because he could not possibly have looked at Obama, studied his background and said, “Yeah, this is a guy who will be good for the country!”

General Powell, you have tarnished all that you worked for in your career. Your lack of good judgement in this case is startling and frightening!!

If Powell had endorsed McCain, ...I wouldn't be calling him a bold-face liar, as I am now.

"Bold-face liar", hmmm, where have I heard that one? :)

He endorsed (in my opinion unarguably) the most liberal Presidential candidate in the history of the country - much more liberal than Dukakis, McGovern, Humphry or Carter.

I agree with you except for George McGovern. Remember that McGovern and Tom Daschle are both from South Dakota, which seems to be a little Red shop of horrors, when it isn't electing solid men like John Thune instead -- it was Daschle who was the architect of Obama's "blank projection-screen" strategy, to-wit: profile vigorously, actually say nothing of substance -- let people project their hopes onto you!

But McGovern, under whose tutelage Tommy Dasschole most assuredly grew up and waxed Red, was an old Henry Wallace "Progressive" back in 1948, and attended the Communist convention that pretended to be a rump convention of the Democratic Party. McGovern was a Wallace delegate, and Wallace was Stalin's man. So what did that make McGovern's candidacy in 1972? It made his candidacy the overreaching of the Democratic Party by the Old and New Left, and the transmogrification of Jack Kennedy's and Harry Truman's party into an American Red party. Carter led the real Democrats back to power in 1976, but now the Reds are back in charge.

So it is telling, as you say, for Powell to have gone out of his way to support Barack Obama publicly, given what Obama represents in and about the Democratic Party and its sludgier Left-wing back alleys.

Powell has admitted that he got his military rank as a result of affirmative action policies, not merit.

Of course he would support Obama.

Powell is beyond a RINO.

He openly supported a candidate for President who is a closet Muslim, a man whose birth credentials have been blocked from public scrutiny, and a man who is a socialist Democrat with intimate ties to the most corrupt political machine in America and a racist church.

The only criterion that Powell had a hook to hang his hat on was the issue of race - that he supported Obama because he was black. That would make Powell a racist in addition to being a Quisling.

As for Gingrich’s assertion that the GOP should not restrict its circle of elected officials and policy setters on the basis of political philosophy - that is patently absurd. The libs HAVE a liberal party - the Democrats. The OVERWHELMING majority of Republican rank and filers are CONSERVATIVES which is why they are not DEMCRATS. They have a RIGHT to expect that the people they nominate to office reflect THEIR political values not those of the opposition party.

FURTHERMORE. most Americans today STILL are closer to CONSERVATIVE political ideals than liberal ones, DESPITE the damage inflicted by an eight year reign of power by a closet liberal posing as a Republican and a Congress controlled for the most part by a gutless Republican leadership.

Gingrich should go take a hike and take his two new buddies Powell and Ridge (The Meathead) with him.

Colin Powell is not to be taken seriously by anyone. He’s a disgrace.

Perhaps Powell supported Obama while still claiming to be Republican because Powell intends to run for president and knows that the powers that be in the GOP tend to be too politically correct for their own good. They will be obligated by their extreme pussiness to outliberal the libs by choosing a minority to run against a minority president. If Hillary had won they could choose a woman or a hispanic to oppose her, but with Obama the opponent they will be pretty much limited to selecting Powell- it’s not as if primaries mean anything anymore...
