President Obama will nominate federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court Tuesday, FOX News has learned.

Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic on the high court if confirmed. She would succeed outgoing Justice David Souter.

Sotomayor's selection indicates that Obama is interested in diversifying the court. If she is confirmed, Sotomayor would also be just the third woman to ever sit on the Supreme Court bench, joining Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

She has suffered from diabetes since childhood, I don’t know to what degree that calls into question her longevity.

Five minutes after the nomination, the first Republicans will begin singing her praises.

She was first placed on the bench by Bush, I’m sure she’ll be accepted by the moderates of the GOP.

Apparently there could have been a worse choice from among the leftists Obama has available.

I am just saddened by the fact that her gender and race were the reason she made the shortlist to begin with.

When you go in to a process with a laundry list of attributes that must be satisfied to pay back the debt you owe your supporters, then everything else takes a back seat.

I never thought I would live to see a Supreme Court seat be handed out as a sop to a voting block.

I am getting too old for this.

NO! She wouldn’t be the first Hisapnic. Only the first Hispanic female.

LOL! Put on the bench by the same Bush41 that seated David Souter? Maybe history does repeat itself.

If the repubicans block her, then he will pick someone worse, but she sounds like a remake of Ginsburg. Funny how conservative judges stay conservative or drift to moderate to slightly liberal. Liberal to moderate judges once on the bench NEVER move to the right. NEVER. Look for the gay marriage issue being taken up this year...It should not be taken up by the scotus as it should be an issue for the voter.

Sadly, she has been radicalized.

A seemingly intelligent woman who, like O, thought her bread was buttered on the far left side.

And the respect for the supreme joke - er - court goes even lower.

What a joke.

While she was named to the bench by George H.W. Bush, she was actually chosen for her seat by Daniel Moynihan. As the Democratic Senator with a Democratic Senate majority, he had the right to recommend a fair share of George H.W. Bush’s District Court appointees.

Cardozo was Jewish, and last time I checked, Portugal was not considered part of Latin America.

‘Latin American’ does not equal ‘Hispanic.’
