Judicial Confirmation Network Statement on nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court
Judicial Confirmation Network ^ | 05/26/09 | Wendy Long

Posted on 05/26/2009 7:05:31 AM PDT by freespirited

Wendy E. Long, counsel to the Judicial Confirmation Network, on nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court:

"Judge Sotomayor is a liberal judicial activist of the first order who thinks her own personal political agenda is more important than the law as written. She thinks that judges should dictate policy, and that one's sex, race, and ethnicity ought to affect the decisions one renders from the bench.

"She reads racial preferences and quotas into the Constitution, even to the point of dishonoring those who preserve our public safety. On September 11, America saw firsthand the vital role of America's firefighters in protecting our citizens. They put their lives on the line for her and the other citizens of New York and the nation. But Judge Sotomayor would sacrifice their claims to fair treatment in employment promotions to racial preferences and quotas. The Supreme Court is now reviewing that decision.

"She has an extremely high rate of her decisions being reversed, indicating that she is far more of a liberal activist than even the current liberal activist Supreme Court."

So, IOW, another marxist activist like Obama himself. One who will not let herself be burdened by the "constitution itself", which Obama himself stated is the principle problem.

Who'd a thunk it?

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

NOW WE KNOW WHAT A COMMUNITY ORGANIZER DOES

OBAMA, THE STOCK MARKET, AND ENERGY

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA IN HIS OWN WORDS

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA'S UPBRINGING

IT'S TIME FOR A RETURN TO THE OLD SCHOOL

whoever this gal is that gave this statement, it is too brief to fully understand, but I get the gist of her opinion. It would be nice to have it backed up with more details of the case she references

Exactly how does she feel about the Constitution and the responsibility of Supreme Court Judges to enforce the Constitution?

That statement just loses a little credibility when it refers to “the current liberal activist Supreme Court,” which is not how most people view Clarence Thomas, Sam Alito, Roberts, etc.

Here's one example (there's lots of backup):

Sotomayer speech at Berkeley

Money quote: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life."

Oh, and how about this (where we make policy):

Sotomayer "Makes Policy"

As a federal judge, Sotomayor’s commitment to “serving the underprivileged” has led her to some highly contentious legal decisions where she has placed “empathy” over common sense or the dictates of the law.

In 1998, the Family Research Council mockingly bestowed on Sotomayor its Court Jester Award for her decision to extend the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to a woman whose self-identified “handicap,” which caused her to fail the New York State bar exam several times, was her illiteracy.

It will be interesting to see how well our republican senators on the Jud. Comm. do in their raising of her bias and utter disregard for the actual text of the Constitution. Will they wimp out in order to not “offend” the Mexican voting bloc??

Let’s hope somebody else besides Hannity will bring up that money quote....HELLO SENATORS!! Let’s not forget, the usual charges of racism will come out.

**She thinks that judges should dictate policy, and that one’s sex, race, and ethnicity ought to affect the decisions one renders from the bench.**

Not good for most of us. I hope the senator grills her good!

Agreed, I’d need to see some cases and decisions made to get a better idea.
