Senate Republicans Say They’ll Treat Sotomayor ‘Fairly’

As President Barack Obama named federal appeals court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve on the highest court in the land on Tuesday morning, Senate Republicans withheld judgment and said they’ll look closely at her record.

“Senate Republicans will treat Judge Sotomayor fairly,” said Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in a statement. “But we will thoroughly examine her record to ensure she understands that the role of a jurist in our democracy is to apply the law even-handedly, despite their own feelings or personal or political preferences.”

McConnell noted that Democrats have often said that the Senate is not a rubber stamp. “Accordingly, we trust they will ensure there is adequate time to prepare for this nomination, and a full and fair opportunity to question the nominee and debate her qualifications.”<>

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a member of the Judiciary Committee, urged his colleagues and reporters not to “pre-judge or pre-confirm” Sotomayor.

“It is my hope that the process will allow her to prove herself to possess the impartiality, integrity, legal expertise and judicial temperament that we have come to expect from those that sit on our highest court. She must prove her commitment to impartially deciding cases based on the law, rather than based on her own personal politics, feelings, and preferences,” Cornyn said.

Geraldo will love her....both have huge chips on their shoulders and Ms. Sotomayor has an agenda that does not belong on the Supreme Court and she does not believe in the United States Constitution....she is the Minority....who needs more of that intellect?

Why do the Repubs always talk about fairness after seeing the treatment their nominees receive from the Democrats? Do they think the Dems are suddenly going to start acting fair with them? They really do disgust me.

“‘Fairly’ “

Oh great, “fairly” has worked so well for us before hasn't it?

Take off the gloves and fight as dirtily as the Dims or we're doomed and going to lose all our freedoms and “rights”.

Do the Dims fight “fairly”? Do they care? Loser Wussy McCain fought fair and he LOST!!!

People are going to die because the Republicans fought “fair” and LOST!

Get real, deal with it, or America and Western civilization is going to die. Simple as that.

They should treat her fairly. In fact they should treat her as fairly as she treats white firemen.

If the republicans had any huevos they would announce that they would evaluate her by:

where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Don’t fret yet. “Fairly” is just a civilized code-word on the right’s part just to make the left think about what the real motives are which is...she wont make it past the 1st session of questioning.

What do you want to bet that, THAT FAIRNESS will extend to the ILLEGALS!?

Anyone except myself believe that this is part of the reason that Obama has nominated her?

The first question for this nominee should be “Are your federal and state income taxes all up to date and paid?”

GOP Senators ought to remind the msm how Judge Bork was treated, and he was much more qualified to be a SCOTUS than Judge Sotomayor is. The Dems don’t deserve to have BO’s appointments treated as royalty when they set the standard for “borking” Republican nominees.

I intend to go down to [R] headquarters and change my party affiliation but first, I am going to tell them that I am doing so because I am a conservative -first- and unless/until they straighten their wimpy asses up, I’m outta here.

. . . they’ll look closely at her record.

Well, so much for being fair. To be fair you have to look at anything but her record. It's all about gender, race, and political proclivities dontcha know?

In fact, Juan McCain and his Gang of 14 will rush it right through the process. After all, they only oppose and obstruct conservatives...
