EDITORIAL: A judge too far. Nominating Sotomayor reveals the president's true colors
The Washington Times ^ | May 27, 2009 | Editorial

With his nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court, President Obama has abandoned all pretense of being a post-partisan president. While he may like to think of himself as a thoughtful moderate soaring above the issues that divide America, his actions reveal what hides under that hopeful lining.

Presidents usually nominate judges that espouse their philosophy. So what does this nomination tell us about Mr. Obama's true colors?

Even the liberal establishment worries that Judge Sotomayor tilts too far to the left. New Republic essayist Jeffrey Rosen reports that fellow liberals who have watched or worked with her closely "expressed questions about her temperament, her judicial craftsmanship, and... [they have said] she is 'not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench.' "

A suspiciously high number of her decisions have been overruled by higher courts. Wendy Long of the Judicial Confirmation Network said that record shows "she is far more of a liberal activist than even the current liberal activist Supreme Court."

In reality Obama’s true colors were revealed long ago. Just see Rev. Wright and William Ayres. Obama is the most radical far-leftist ever to hold the office.

We should be grateful that obama settled for Sotomayor and didn't try to push either Ayers or Wright through.

If he don't get Sotomayor confirmed, he just might nominate the Rev. Wright or William Ayres. Don't rule out Clinton (both of them). Never underestimate the One.

There’s no way to know who he’d nominate next.

We don’t know which way the political wind is blowing yet.

I have yet to hear anyone on television talk about this angle, its all been how will the Republicans will react to this left wing loon. How about, How will Americans React to an Obviously blatant Racist Anti Constitutionalist Judge being appointed to the Nations Highest court in the Land,a person who will be unaccountable to the People and will be there for life.
If there are any Patriots left in that band of thieves which is better known as Congress now is the time to expose this Fraud Obama for what he really is an Anti American radical Marxist

Nothing like making it up to suit you if you’re a liberal “judge.” This is the first part of Obama also using the judiciary to destroy the country. He already has the legislative branch chock full of minions without a single independent thought and now he’ll begin to hire judges who can’t think past their racism. Fine.
The revolution shall come.

Obama, Powell, Sotomayor: three prime examples of the damage caused by affirmative action.

Being a leftist means never having to say you’re sorry. That’s why our other favorite leftist Justice, Buzzy Ginsburg, is allowed to sleep through cases.

The Democrat/liberal spin machine was out in force last night on the cable news networks. To hear them tell it, she is “centrist” and only slightly left of Justice Alito.

...and yet, with the exception of a temporary withdrawal of funds for the closing of Camp Delta, he has gotten EVERYTHING he has asked for.

More of the bitter cup we must drink until we get back control of Congress in 2010.

I believe a very liberal female judge was recalled in California a few yrs ago. In California !! So it's never really over unless we stop fighting

Maybe I'm off base but if we get back Congress and if she is as bad as they say she can be impeached.

....obama settled for Sotomayor and didn't try to push either Ayers or Wright through.

Or Beastwoman, the Smartest Woman Lawyer in America (R), or her cloven-hoofed consort, The Rapist.

Mario Cuomo is still out there, whom Slick wanted because he thought Cuomo Senior would be great at logrolling conservative justices, like Felix Frankfurter and William Brennan were.

And I suppose he could always nominate someone from academe, like Lawrence Tribe of Harvard Law, and try to blow away the conservatives with dazzling scholarship, arguing it round and flat or forwards and backwards as the outcome requires.

You think it's rough now? Scalia and Thomas had better hire food tasters. And not get on any airplanes.

Just another slap in the face of conservative American principles

What "principles" are those? When President Bush nominated Estrada, Bush and his "compassionate conservative" pimp squad went on and on about how "historic" the nomination was, and how Estrada's "personal story" made him a great choice.

The GOP has conceded the field to tribalism. Don't be surprised that the Democrats are walking through another door opened by Busheron and his crowd.

I have yet to hear anyone on television talk about this angle.....

At least ABC News played it straight up the middle last night on Nightline. They prominently mentioned Sotomayor's blurb about being a Hispanic woman and therefore a better judge, and they played the video clip about appeals-court judges making public policy.

They also explained pretty carefully the basics of the Connecticut firefighters' case, and how Sotomayor might be reversed yet again. They didn't go into the details about the court's trying to fly under the radar by handing down a per curiam ruling (i.e. relying on the district court's opinion as written), but the equities and issues were clear enough.
