The top Republican said he can't imagine a filibuster against Sotomayor

WASHINGTON – The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Wednesday he can't imagine a filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, even though GOP lawmakers want to closely scrutinize her legal philosophy.

"The nominee has serious problems," Sen. Jeff Sessions said in a nationally broadcast interview. "But I would think that we would all have a good hearing, take our time, and do it right. And then the senators cast their vote up or down based on whether or not they think this is the kind of judge that should be on the court."

"I don't sense a filibuster in the works," the Alabama Republican said, amid President Barack Obama's call for the Senate to install his history-making choice of the 54-year-old Sotomayor to succeed Justice David Souter on the high court. She would be the Hispanic justice to serve there.

The GOP faces an uphill battle in defeating the New York-born daughter of Puerto Rican parents, but Republicans are promising a thorough and perhaps lengthy hearing process that scrutinizes her record and judicial philosophy.

The Republicans simply do not know how to play hardball.

They need to take advantage of their questioning time to expose her racism and disregard for the rule of law,

and pin that ideology on Obama...

I can dream.

I mean, why should we expect a conservative, republican lawmaker exhibit the characteristics he was assumed to have when he was elected.

It isn’t about whether or not he has a chance of stopping this one. It is all about whether or not he has the character to do the right thing.

How about they don’t want to. Saving their ability to steal from Americans is more like it. They need to go.

Actually, I don't know why they just don't go back home and stay home until 2010 ... nothing they can do in Washington.

“They haven’t got a prayer in stopping this one. Why waste your amunition?”

Because they need to take a stand and galvanize the electorate to what an unfit, radical candidate Sotomayor is. If the Republican Senators would do this en mass, like voting against Obummer’s budget, it draws a line and shows there is a difference between the parties.

The Dims have the votes but opposition can still achieve two goals: show how out of step and radical this candidate and the Dims are and start rejuvenating the base for 2010.

I would like to see them pose this question to her:

“Judge Sotomayor: when referred to the Supreme Court, your rulings are overturned 60% of the time. Does this mean you have been wrong 60% of the time?”

Let’s see how this egotistical Latino respects the high court. This question would certainly expose her belief that she is smarter than everyone else.

The fear of being labeled racists and losing the phantom hispanic voter demographic they never had is too great. Cowards.

“amid President Barack Obama’s call for the Senate to install his history-making choice”

I’m tired of all this ‘history-making’. Who cares if she’s hispanic? Who cares if he’s black?

Identity politics will drag us all down.

Hmmm ... what fighters! Did we ever hear John Paul Jones yell out “Give up the ship, men!”

Or Washington march to the Trenton under the passphrase “Victory must be easy or we surrender!”

My first thought was that this is a typo.

My second thought is that it's exactly what was meant.

They should investigate, not oppose. On the face of things she would win anyway. And if she wins she will be better than her predecessor. If an investigation produces something unknown or under reported then we can talk about opposition. But its dumb to talk about it without a really good story that would support the effort.

They need to fight on this one even though they will probably not win. This is a great time to have a national stage to expose the radical agenda of Obama to a sleeping electorate.

I hope they don’t hold back. I have a feeling there will be some other things that will come out on her. Think about every nominee that Obama has put forth. They have had something that was not vetted.

Repubs have enough ammunition to go around and inform the masses by actually trying to lead but render themselves useless and corrupt by taking what you advise, being afraid of losing. Who dares wins, and the only daring done in the last 40 years have been by the collectivist that are successfully destroying the liberties in this Country.

For the repub leaders, it's about preserving power plus their own a$$es, not maintaining the freedoms that made this Country great. In short, repubs enable the dems by not even trying to use any ammunition at all.

The are scared sh@$less by a shrinking media and not being invited to those elite cocktail parties so they cower in front of the collectivist's will and squash liberty through passive governance. In you are going down, you better go down fighting, not what you offer, through appeasement. It seems appeasement is why repubs enjoy their minority status.

I don't vote for people who hold onto their ammunition and are afraid to use it, especially when they are in a fire fight. Screw those milquetoast, may Repubs enjoy the hell in which they are trying to appease.

Hello?

If none of the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee vote in favor of sending the nomination to the floor, it doesn't go. She would have to withdraw.

Yeah. Except the pubs are okay with whatever brrack thinks is best, no matter what. They aren't as much spineless as they are un-caring. The senators are going to have a "good hearing," some lobster and steak mixed with a little chit-chat, then they'll go home. Their work is done. No biggie.

Just another reason why the GOP is antithetical to our existence. They have no mettle amd they care not one whit about Western culture or our preservation.
