McCain on Sotomayor, North Korea Threat [Obama "won. He gets to nominate who he chooses"]
Fox News ^ | 2009-05-28

(snip)

HANNITY: OK, and so I'm — all right. I'm reading between the lines here, Senator. If you didn't think she was qualified for the Second Circuit, I've got to believe that you're going to be very — it's going to be a very difficult uphill battle for her to convince you she's qualified for the Supreme Court. Is that a fair statement?

MCCAIN: Well, yes, but I also — it's fair to respect that her previous record I did not find satisfactory, but I do believe that she's got to be able to make her case, and for me to prejudge it before a single hearing starts, I don't think is the way we should go.

Let him — the president won. He gets to nominate who he chooses. Now we decide as far as advice and consent is concerned. I'll let him and her make the case for her.

Actually, I’m surprised that McCain didn’t say he was going to vote “yes”. If anything, he’s signaling that he’s voting “no”.

Partisanship is as American as apple pie. Without it, you get tyranny. McCain is to the democRATs as fuel is to fire.

John McCain is a colossal embarrassment to reasoned governance.

He’ll vote to affirm Sotomayer.

The prick voted for Ginsberg. Once they’re nominated, John promotes himself to King Rubber Stamp.

Translation: I am dubious about her judicial philosopy, have suspicions about her qualifications but will give her a fair chance to make her case before the Senate... SCHEECH. I hope none here are ever picked to sit on a jury!

More of the “I won” crap. I’m by no means fluent in moron, but I think what John is saying that we should just bend over and take it. Thanks for nothing John.

I think you are correct. Message to your senators.....do not cut Sotomayor any slack because of her race or gender. Empathy has nothing to do with LAW and everything to do with Political correctness.

NO TO JUDGE SOTOMAYOR AND HER EMPATHY.

Well, I’m not a McCain fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you’re right. He’s best off appearing not to pre-judge her.

And I’m not sure that reminding listeners about the “Obama won” comment is altogether admiring, either. It didn’t go over very well when Obama said it.

Not that I expect anything much from McCain in the confirmation hearings, but we can at least hope he’ll vote “no.”

confirmed, heck, they never even got a chance for a vote, because of ideology,

not because of qualifications.

Somehow, we just let it pass when the left puts up an ideological fight and then our reps don’t engage in it because of respect for process.

Like you, I'm not a McCain a fan. But here, all he's saying is "Obama won and can nominate whomever he chooses. But, I, as a sitting Senator, have an obligation under "advise and consent" to be skeptical.

He's definitely not rubber-stamping this pick, far from it. And, if John McCain is willing to question her, even before the hearing, then I'm not entirely convinced this broad's going to get confirmed.
