Would Sotomayor overturn Roe?

When President Obama first selected Sonia Sotomayor as his choice to replace David Souter on the Supreme Court, a few conservatives wondered if Obama might not get his own version of Souter — a judicial appointment who went in the opposite direction than presumed. That seemed like wishful thinking for conservatives with almost no power to deflect her confirmation, but the New York Times says the notion has appeared on the Left as a concern. Given her lack of a track record, some of the people who first cheered the nomination now want some guarantees that Sotomayor will uphold Roe:

In nearly 11 years as a federal appeals court judge, President Obama’s choice for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor, has never directly ruled on whether the Constitution protects a woman’s right to an abortion. But when she has written opinions that touched tangentially on abortion disputes, she has reached outcomes in some cases that were favorable to abortion opponents.

Now, some abortion rights advocates are quietly expressing unease that Judge Sotomayor may not be a reliable vote to uphold Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 abortion rights decision. In a letter, Nancy Keenan, president of Naral Pro-Choice America, urged supporters to press senators to demand that Judge Sotomayor reveal her views on privacy rights before any confirmation vote.

“Discussion about Roe v. Wade will — and must — be part of this nomination process,” Ms. Keenan wrote. “As you know, choice hangs in the balance on the Supreme Court as the last two major choice-related cases were decided by a 5-to-4 margin.”

The word is that she may not be pro-choice. She might be just the one to overturn Rowe V Wade. Could you imagine????

If this is true, our side needs to flood SCOTUS with Roe challenges

Sotomayor would abort the babies herself.

These stories are false flag stories to try to divide conservatives. She is no more a Roman Catholic than Nancy Pelosi.

Growing in office only works one way. Lefties never become more conservative, but conservatives always become more liberal.

She would never vote to overturn Roe. It isn’t going to happen.

Hard to believe Obama would have nominated her had he not been convinced she shares his views.

Would Sotomayor overturn Roe?

No. But she would overturn The Constitution.

Stranger things have happened. I would love for it to happen. I don’t know how she can’t be placed on the court so I am going to hope for the best.

With respect, you might as well hope for Obama to wake up, convert to Orthodox Judaism, and support Israel and a flat tax.

She’s a classic bed-wetter liberal. She was an affirmative action hire to appellate court, and now to the SCOTUS.

She’s never been in private business, but always a government employee.

She belongs to a racist organization that demands ethnic cleansing of whites from the USA whose slogan is “For the race everything; outside the race, nothing!”

She hates the 2nd amendment.

Her rulings have been consistently liberal.

I have never seen a person with so many liberal positions be pro-life.

Not unless her master, OBamBam told her to, and you all know the chances of that.

As I said on an earlier thread, I wouldn’t trust her an inch. I think this is just sludge from the propaganda masters. If she sits on the bench, she will vote to kill babies. Bet on it. No matter what she tells the stupid Republicans in the Senate.

Come on people, get real. Obama wouldn’t have chosen anyone who was not a pro-abortion Roe fan. It is only Republican nominees that “grow” once appointed to the bench, not Democratic ones.

Given her Hispanic and Catholic background it would not be beyond the realm of possibility that she would be opposed to Roe. In one decision she upheld the right of the government to restrict abortion rights. Even assuming she is not opposed to Roe I feel that she may support parental notification and uphold the ban on partial birth abortion. The hearings will reveal where she stands.

I agree, I think the one position she took wasn’t really pro-life as much as it was pro-government.

For the record, she was in private practice for 7 years, so just mainly a government employee.
