Senator Pat Roberts is a "no" — never mind Sotomayor's "ethnicicity"

Pat Roberts is the first Senate Republican to say he'll vote against Sonia Sotomayor.

A conservative talk radio host dared the Kansas Republican to oppose the SCOTUS nominee — and Roberts obliged this morning, citing his Semper Fi.

KCMO host Chris Stigall, speaking with the former intelligence committee chairman, started off by complaining about how Senate Republicans were scared of President Obama and reluctant to oppose Sonia Sotomayor because they are afraid to "be assigned the label 'bigot' in opposing her."

That prompted Roberts to reply: "Well, I'm a Marine and nothing much scares me. ... I do not plan to vote for her."

He went on to explain:

I voted 'no' in 1998. I did not feel she was appropriate on the Appeals Court. Since that time, she has made statements on the role of the Appeals Court that I think is [sic] improper and incorrect. I think that we should be judging people not on race, not on gender or beackground or ethnicity or a very telling story. ... Clarence Thomas had that and look what he got.

Roberts, who was briefed on waterboarding by the CIA, took issue with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's claim that her CIA briefings have been vague and virtually useless — saying there was plenty of back-and-forth and chances to express complaints.

When Stigall asked if it was "clear" Pelosi knew about waterboarding, Roberts took a shot at the speaker:

"I dont know if it was clear to her. Judging from some of her actions, I don't know if anything's clear to her," Roberts said.

Just what I've been saying all along; Pelosi is not intelligent.

I heard on the morning drive that at least 16 Democrat senators are said to be wavering, mostly those from conservative states such as Dorgan, Tester, Byrd and Jay Rockerfeller. The theory was floated that this is ObaMao's version of Harriet Myers to clear the way for somebody worse.

Personally, I don't know how much worse you can get. Maybe an ultraliberal with a brain like Ruth Bader Ginsberg?

Or worse yet, an ultraliberal with a brain and persuasive skills.

I have no doubt Sotomayer will alienate Tony Kennedy the swing voter, someone like Dianne Wood would not.

We need more Marines in the Senate.

Sotonmayer’s view on guns is that the Constitution only prohibits the Federal Government from imposing gun restrictions, not the States. Under that philosophy it appears the states can censor newspapers, close churches, and prohibit free speech. This woman is an idiot.
