"A Berkeley, California, burglar engineered his own arrest, and that of his girlfriend, when he stole a laptop and used it as his personal computer. He didn't realize that the laptop had an automatic backup program, and that the photos he took were being copied to his victim's backup repository. Berkeley police recognized him, and his location, from the photos."
Guess Rush will be pushing this since the backup program is a sponsor of his.
All you have to do is look at the bill, find out who he called, and then ask them all who they were talking to!
Making money legally in America is so easy, you’d have to be a dunce to be stealing laptops & cellphones, so it all figures.
The absolute top prize has to go to guys who kill someone during a robbery and then use the victim’s cell phone to call their girlfriends. The kops don’t even bother to ask, they just stake out the girlfriend’s pad and arrest the first likely looking perp. Inevitably carrying the victim’s cell.
Especially since cell phones broadcast their location constantly.
I've got one better. A few years ago, I worked in a security camera lab, full of HD security cameras being tested and continually being archived. One morning, a colleague asked if I had a camera aimed at his desk and had seen his mp3 player. He said it was stolen, and I told him that NOBODY is stupid enough to steal anything in this lab due to the HD archived video and pictures at most 30 fps from about 20 cameras spread throughout the lab.
After sifting through a few motion events, we found the perp. It was some young kid working with the cleanup crew. He never once looked at a camera. All he did the whole time, was look to make sure his co-worker didn't see him steal. We burned a disk with the HD video and HD still shots of the guy, before, during and after the theft. We got the player back, and the thief was fired on the spot.
I still can't believe how stupid that was.
Wow. I was having a grumpy morning... morning. I needed that chuckle.
THANKS, dumb crook!!!
No one ever said thieves were brilliant. They may be pretty slick on getting into the home/store/wherever to commit the theft, but after that they tend to be “stoopit”.
I guess he didn't know what that little thingie down on the tray was. LOL!
