GOP goes after the Obama's date night in NYC @ 3:37 pm by Michael O'Brien
The Republican National Committee (RNC) went after President and Mrs. Obama's date night, contrasting their trip to New York City Saturday evening with Americans' economic struggles.
"As President Obama prepares to wing into Manhattan's theater district on Air Force One to take in a Broadway show, GM is preparing to file bankruptcy and families across America continue to struggle to pay their bills," RNC spokeswoman Gail Gitcho wrote to reporters.
"Have a great Saturday evening even if you're not jetting off somewhere at taxpayer expense," she added.
The president and first lady had announced they will take a smaller VIP jet under military command to minimize the costs of the flight to New York this evening.
The administration had come under fire before for the trip of an Air Force One plane over Manhattan for promotional pictures, a trip which sparked questions about security and the cost of the trip.
The RNC dredged up that comparison as well, adding a clip to Obama's joke before the White House Correspondents' Association dinner about the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia, having been grounded for taking the plane for a "joyride" in that instance.
Well, if the CEOs of the Big Three were all but ordered to carpool to Washington, D.C., then the Royal Family should have done the same. Or maybe they could have taken the Biden car on Amtrak.
Hypocrisy, thy name is Obama.
Photo Op!
I assume that you are blind. Did you see any USAF markings on that boat you mentioned??? Didn’t think so. At least the Bush family bought and paid for that boat with their own money.
The great one can’t come up with money to by AF one. As for using a smaller plane, I expect it would be the Boeing 757, which is pretty big. I would recommend a Cessna 172 or smaller for him.
I don’t know why, but your post reminded me of 0bama’s penchant for comparing himself to that other theater-going president from Illinois.
Plus, the Bushes OWN the compound at Kennebunkport. Granted, there were transportation costs, but once there security was already in place and all of the recreation was using their own stuff. What do you want to bet that the theater tickets the King Obama and Her Thighness are not being paid for by them?
I think you need to re-read my original post. My point was that the media, even back then, was eager to portray A Republican President as out of touch with the the average American during a tough recession. They did this most frequently by showing Bush recreating.
I was drawing a comparison to the insignificant cost of Bush' own watercraft usage, to the enormous expense of Barry's day-trip to NYC to catch a show and some dinner. I was trying to illustrate the media's hypocrisy. I'm sorry you took it as something else.
"Hey kids, wanna see the Statue of Liberty up close?!"
"Yay, Daddy!"
Amazing! Seems like obama would tone it down for PR purposes if nothing else. Apparently he really does believe he can get away with anything.
C’mon. The guy is technically the POTUS.
I’ve got a bigger problem with Pelosi transporting the family via the USAF than I do with footing the bill for the president and his wife.
The Obamas plan to attend the 8 p.m. performance of Joe Turners Come and Gone, a critically acclaimed production that has been nominated for six Tony Awards, including best revival of a play.
Set in a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911, Joe Turners Come and Gone centers on a group of African-Americans searching for their place in the world and coming to grips with the legacy of slavery.
Oh joy, the arms again against a backdrop of shimmy-shimmy fringe. Anybody have any idea if the limousine and Secret Service escort vehicles were flown up in advance?
Oh My, what’s he going to see? What a nightmare for NYC! Hope they gave them plenty of notice.
Man, don’t you guys UNDERSTAND just how HARD he is working for us all? That he is worrying himself and working himself so hard, and that his beautiful wife is worried, and that he needs some rest so that he can con...
Sorry, I tried, I really tried, but I just can’t do it...;)
Not much different from zero saying he inherited all this, and R's jumping on board with that. Sorry, he has no standing to blame the previous administration UNLESS he stopped the spending cold, and cut taxes. You don't get standing on that argument when you more than quadruple the spending in the first 100 days!! Nope, it's all his, and truth be told, it always has been, and they are quite proud of it.
Let’s see if the O’s respond as Marie Antoinette did: “Just let them eat cake.”
I intend to do my best to starve this government.
Speaking of which, I’m currently about halfway through “Riding with Reagan” by John Barletta; he has already recounted several incidents where Reagan refused to allow taxpayers to foot personal bills. For example, he would not use the Secret Service horses’ feed for his own horses but instead insisted he pay for his own. How’s that for a class act?
