62% Say Bush, Not Obama, To Blame For Ongoing Economic Problems Monday, June 01, 2009

President Obama contends he inherited the nation’s ongoing economic problems and that his actions since taking office are not to blame. Sixty-two percent (62%) of U.S. voters agree with the president that the problems are due to the recession that began under the Bush administration.

Just 27% of voters say the problems are being caused more by the policies Obama has put in place since taking office, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Ten percent (10%) are not sure which president is more to blame.

Not surprisingly, 88% of Democrats say it’s Bush’s fault. However, Republicans are more evenly divided. Thirty-four percent (34%) of the GOP faithful say the economic problems can be traced to the Bush Administration while 51% blame Obama’s policies.

I assume they didn’t include Congress as one of the options in the poll.

Bush happened to be the guy in office when the housing and debt situation hit the fan. Presidents get blamed or are given too much credit for factors they don’t control.

The cognitive dissonance of the American people is going to cause them great distress. They will pay a big price for their ignorance. Minorities and women will be hardest hit.

Give it time.

I'm not so sure about that. Hoover is still widely credited with responsibility for the 30's depression despite FDR's stunning ability to make things worse.

I’ve been saying this for a long time. The rock star treatment for Obama will continue. The MSM’s ability to endlessly blame Bush is amazing. The electorate’s stupidity is without limit.

I’ll be shocked if Obama isn’t at least a 2 term president.

Problem for Obama is... Bush won't be the incumbent in 2010/2012 and the Republicans won't be the party in power. This is fast becoming the democrats economy.

Agreed. Obama and the media will be able to continue to point the finger for about another year maximum.

Sounds like a lot of Republicans are also too angry with the wrong guy and wasting a lot of energy beating a dead horse.

How long can the democrats continue to run against George Bush, and how long will Republicans (and so-called “independents”) be angry and/or “guilty” enough, to let them?

Of course not. That doesn't fit the narrative, and might actually cause some of the stupid public to notice that Congress is solely responsible for the value of money, tax policy, regulation, etc. And on that point, GOP and DNC alike have advocated and enacted bigger federal government. The parties are in cahoots on the matter of stripping freedom from the public.

That is part of the problem. The GOP is never proactive. Just hope opinions change.
