Filmmaker and leftist activist Michael Moore said the demise of General Motors filled him with joy Monday and then suggested the Obama administration launch into a massive socialization of U.S. industry to build green autos and bullet trains.
To pay for it all, he suggests a $2 per gallon federal tax.
Writing on The Daily Beast Web site, Moore said he was writing from Flint, Michigan, GMs birthplace, which he described as abandoned and emptied by the companys incompetence and eagerness for cheap labor.
Who among us wants $50 billion of our tax dollars thrown down the rat hole of still trying to save GM?, wrote Moore, who came to fame with a film, Roger & Me that mocked GMs management in the 1980s.
It refused to build automobiles that the public wanted, cars that got great gas mileage, were as safe as they could be, and were exceedingly comfortable to drive. Ohand that wouldn't start falling apart after two years. GM stubbornly fought environmental and safety regulations. Its executives arrogantly ignored the "inferior" Japanese and German cars, cars which would become the gold standard for automobile buyers, Moore wrote.
He then gives 10 suggestions for revamping the auto industry and the entire U.S. infrastructure.
First, he proposes taking the money being poured into GM to give laid off workers of all stripes jobs in a massive reindustrialization similar to the World War II effort.
Announce that we will have (My Note: The Shinkansen) bullet trains criss-crossing this country in the next five years. Japan is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its first bullet train this year.

London to Paris: 186 mph, 2 hours and 25 minutes (from $98 at eurostar.com)
Comparable flight: 1 hour and 20 minutes on EasyJet, $30
Eurostar carries more passengers than all of the airlines combined on both routes out of London.
As if the airlines aren't in enough trouble financially..here comes competition.
And Moore's "suggestion in a hat" scenario:..."impose a $2 tax on every gallon of gasoline..." ah.. whatever happened to drilling and becoming energy independent of foreign oil, as well?
So it’s ok for Moore to want GM to fail......

Pretty sad that a fat nobody can try to act self righteous.
Take the damn bus fat@$$!
A $2 tax per gallon on gas? I wonder if Moore woud be as accepting of a $5 tax on each movie ticket and movie rental.
What is it with liberals’ fascination with light rail? You end up with transportation that runs on the same routes as cars and buses.
Face it—light rail exists because liberal snobs are too stuck up to ride a bus.
Bullet trains won’t work in a country as big as the U.S.A. We’re too spread out—cities and suburbs both. Airlines can make the trip in a more profitable manner.
I think Michael Moore is filled with something, but it doesn't look like Joy...it looks like lard.
Idiots made him rich and now he publicly states he is glad Americans are out of a job. I hope KOS and DU are proud.
If we are lucky Obama will take this fat fools advice.
It would be a real hoot to watch Moore’s publicity agent tried to load his lard ass into one of those new “smart” cars. LOL!
GM management wanted “cheap labor?” What a liar. I know someone who had a son who worked in transmissions at Gm - on the line and made way over $100,000 a year.
The UAW and liberalism killed GM. German and Japanese workers want to see their car companies succeed. UAW workers and union leaders just want to bleed the companies to death.
No way in hell I'd ride 165 mph in anything built by the UAW.
I predict that will indeed happen, and Americans will be paying $4 per gallon by July 4th and $8 by Election Day 2012.
poor dumb liberal..drink some more koolaid, then Maybe Michael Moore will make some sense.
And Japan is tiny. "Criss-crossing" 3,000 miles? good luck with that.
What is Lard Ass going to do when no one is allowed to sell a car big enough to carry him around anymore?
Moore in December '08: "A few weeks ago, I took my Chrysler in to the Chrysler dealer here in northern Michigan -- and the latest fixes cost me $1,400. The next day, the vehicle wouldn't start. When I got it going, the brake warning light came on. And on and on.
--Saving the Big 3 for You and Me. You might assume from this that I couldn't give a rat's ass about these miserably inept crapmobile makers down the road in Detroit city. But I do care. I care about the millions whose lives and livelihoods depend on these car companies. I care about the security and defense of this country because the world is running out of oil -- and when it runs out, the calamity and collapse that will take place will make the current recession/depression look like a Tommy Tune musical."
I'm pretty sure that Lard Ass is not even aware that Fly Over Country exists.
To paraphrase Dean Wormer: “Fat, ugly and stupid . . . “
