In interview with French TV, Obama says Americans love all things French

President Barack Obama said Tuesday the American people love all things French and acknowledged his own penchant for Gallic food and wines.

In his first interview with a French television channel, Obama heaped praise on the country in an apparent attempted to stamp out any lingering tensions sparked by France's opposition to the United State's 2003 invasion of Iraq.

"France is one of the most important countries in the world," the president told I-Tele and Canal Plus, days ahead of a trip that will take him to Normandy and Paris for D-Day commemorations. He said French collaboration was crucial to solving the world's problems, from climate change to the global recession.

Obama also spoke enthusiastically about French President Nicolas Sarkozy, with whom he said he had a "wonderful relationship."

"He has been very courageous in some of the decisions he has made," Obama said, referring to Sarkozy's strong stance on Afghanistan and Iran's nuclear program.

Sarkozy's predecessor, Jacques Chirac, sparked widespread hostility toward France and French people and products among Americans with his staunch opposition to the Iraq war.

Funny. French wine is getting clobbered by US wine. And for french food, I can’t remember the last time I ate it.

Does he realize that the French did not participate in the D-Day Invasion? De Gaulle wouldn’t even get on the radio and tell the French to cooperate. Ike didn’t even trust him to know about Operation Overlord until the day before.

There was a Grape Vine Blight in France in the late 1970’s. Vines had to be transplanted from California. French wine IS California Wine. Wait until Barack tries to lay a wreath at the graves of French Combat Deaths from The Battle of Normandy. There aren’t any.

I made the mistake of trying snail soup when I was on a cruise... won’t do that again..

I for one am really looking forward to becoming like the French with their Muzzie only “no go” zones and sharia law. Kinda sounds like Dearborn goes to Detroit..

After the war, I think that Churchill described the meetings they had with De Gaulle over the military campaign. Churchill said that when De Gaulle walked into the room, he reminded him of a llama in heat.
