Christie Wins Republican Primary in New Jersey

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: June 2, 2009

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Moderate Christopher J. Christie walked to victory in the Republican gubernatorial primary Tuesday, fending off challenges from two more conservative rivals and setting up a long-anticipated November matchup with the unpopular incumbent Democrat.

''I am honored by the confidence you continue to show in me,'' Christie told a crowd of supporters chanting his name. ''I will work hard each and every day, just like all of you do, to prove to you that your confidence was well-placed.''

Ultraconservative Republican Steve Lonegan conceded the race just before 10 p.m.

Gov. Jon S. Corzine, who glided to victory in the Democratic primary after facing only token competition, officially kicked off his re-election campaign with Vice President Joseph Biden in West Orange

“Ultraconservative Republican Steve Lonegan”

Goodness, I wonder what that epithet could mean.

“I’m not a Christie Whitman type Republican”
— Chris Christie

I’d like to see the proof of that statement in action.

Yeah...no surprise. I voted for Lonegan, but he ran a lousy campaign and did not respond well enough to Christie's attack ads. Well, anything would be better than that creep in Trenton now.

Any time the NY Times call someone an “ultraconservative” that means a normal American, that is, someone who is pro-life, against big gummint, against gay marriage and for gun rights.

It’s New Jersey, one of those states that’s already written off in the “too late to save” category.

Political change is window dressing the state is beyond repair or salvaging.

I am conVINCED that if the fraudulent votes were not counted, pubbies would do MUCH better in this state than they do now. But, I am not arguing with your basic point.

Two conservative rivals? That just divides the conservative vote. One should have dropped out to make sure a conservative won.

Isn't someone who would be a moderate Republican most other places a Conservative in New Jersey, relatively speaking?

Not happy a RINO won, but we need to bust the slump and change the “GOP is dead” narrative.

I agree, along with NY, the northeast and all of the west coast. Conservatives should concentrate on holding their base in the South and the American heartland in the Mid-West.
