Letterman is like George Carlin: funny for a long time but then got old and angry...and out of ideas. His time on the national scene is over. He should leave while he’s near the bottom. Of course his rear-end is already scraping the bottom of the garbage pile.
Almost, except he was never as funny and ran out of ideas a lot sooner.
