Healthcare is the biggest segment of our economy. In the debate over who should pay for what or, increasingly, for whom, most people don't stop to understand just how large a portion of our society's money is dedicated to healthcare.
For some perspective, as a share of GDP, the U.S. spends about twice that of other advanced nations. This is an important reason why the U.S. is increasingly uncompetitive in global manufacturing. It is, for instance, the most important factor (besides poor management) that General Motors and Chrysler are going bankrupt.

blah blah blah
I guess this guy didn’t take Econ 101. Just drivel from the left.
Guy wants me to pay for my health care and for that of the UAW as well so that GM can sell me an inferior car at an even higher price.
Taxes, regulations, mandates.. all from govt is the biggest factor by far.
We need to get gov out of it totally
One simple word...”Scam”....Over 70% of Americans are against it....so bottom line, it will pass!
I have a question?
If health care is too expensive, why would health care ‘reform’ *increase* the cost?
“For some perspective, as a share of GDP, the U.S. spends about twice that of other advanced nations.”
And yet people from some of those “other advanced nations” come here for important, life saving surgeries et al.
Does anyone dispute this?
I heard a guy on the radio provide this little tidbit.......
The UAW takes large amounts of money for healthcare from it's members. If Univ. HC is passed...ALL THAT CASH BECOMES A WINDFALL for them.
“For some perspective, as a share of GDP, the U.S. spends about twice that of other advanced nations.”
Question, when they make comparisons like this are they comparing apples to apples? For example, if they compared us to an advanced nation who has a socialized medicine model, are they comparing total health care costs from said country or just private costs?
As far as the left goes in their “analysis,” I think I know the answer.
Hey, Bud. We lead the world in biotechnology and pharmaceutical development. It’s one of the areas we are very good at. Should we dump our science and therapeutic development so that ‘Government Motors’ can get a bigger slice of the GDP? No one in the world thinks we make the best cars anymore, so maybe that’s a great area to bank the future of the nation on.
If the subject can be changed, taking their eye off the ball there might be a chance. Scandal could cause them to waste time covering it up. The birth certificate issue, CIA & Nancy, something any thing. Just stop this thing from getting off the ground.
She told us how in England, if you want to schedule an appointment with a doctor for a check up, you actually have to go to an office and actually wait in line to do so. You can't do it by mail, e-mail, online or even by phone.
What does that tell you...?
No argument here.
I haven’t even walked through a doctors office for 15 years. I plan to at least triple that span before I check out.
Good idea, along with just about everything else but the military. (of course now that they are forbidden to carry weapons in DC, what do we need with them? Bring on the militia)
Have you ever seen a Brit with straight white teeth?
Or you can buy a Ford...
Watching what I eat (nothing white), good supplements, and decent exercise. I have never felt better.
Doctors fix the mechanical things well. For older folks, I think they make us sicker more often than better.
My 89 year old mother does very well on a similar routine.
The new National Health Service WILL try to kill us older burdens on the system..
Amazing what eating only real food will doo, huh?
