Human beings are social animals. Human beings are also shaped by evolution and natural selection. Humans function through a social system which itself evolves.
So, when the majority of human beings want to live through life and pass on their genes and experiences through their offspring, it becomes imperative that they create a climate that favors this. I won’t go on a killing spree, because I don’t prefer chaos. The vast majority of human beings don’t prefer chaos, either. In order to guarantee a climate of reasonable security, the principle of reciprocity is paramount, which is, the power to empathize.
The best tool to convince the believers is to reveal to them that morality is not a monopoly of any one religion. The excerpt from the Bhagavad-Gita above, indicates that.
When different cultures are able to come with more or less the same morality, it reveals only one thing: that the concepts are all man-made.
A really superior person wouldn't need to be "saved"; that term necessarily implies something quite other than what you suggest.
Your friends, if not you, were making those generalizations.
As for your point regarding the Communist rejecting personal rights, there may be a point to that. But that does not mean that Atheists must start believing in imaginary beings. Is this clear enough?
Thanks for the ping!
And it should sound even more bigoted than it does. Imagine if we used racial terms instead:
Make no mistake: [Insert name of group] think they're smarter than blacks...It is a certainty (to them) that blacks are intellectually inferior.
People would go ballistic about such a statement, but religion is okay to be bigoted against, because the public has bought into the lie that religious belief reflects intellectual capability.
The only issue I'd take with this would be to say that it is Christianity that it is okay to be bigoted against.
Let me restate this...
>>Show me where Communism encourages Christianity and we have some facts.<<
You can twist and spin but until you come up with some facts, don’t bother.
That aside, please reiterate what the whole point regarding Communists propping up Christians is all about.
That's Putin, and it's not a sickle-and-hammer dangling under his neck.
Atheists are pretty hard against Islam, too.
For all that the Danish cartoonist endured, if only the Muslims had heard about what Christopher Hitchens had to say about Islam, he would have suffered even more.

>>The Russians didn’t bulldoze their cathedrals even at the peak of their power<<
Holy Crap dude. Get a clue.
You apparently never talked to a person who lived under Communism. Of course they didn’t bulldoze churches. They used them to weed out the Christians. Show up on Sunday, name go in book, now try to get a job or have your kids go to college. Gone. There is a lot more that “deaths” related to communism.
Look, I belong to a Slovak parish. Many of those people including our Pastor lived under communism. If you think that a cross hanging around Putin’s neck negates all their life experience, you must think Madonna is a virgin.
What a stupid picture as proof of anything.
LOL, I never denied that the Communists have gone after Christians. But to say that they wiped out Christianity, is a stretch. The Orthodox Church still exists, and has large congregations in Russia.
About the Slovaks and the other minorities, the Russians didn’t need their religion to try and exterminate them. They were just as bad with the Ukrainians, the Kazakh, and others, religious or not.
You haven’t clarified what the point of comparing Communism’s position on Christianity is all about.
>>I never denied that the Communists have gone after Christians.<<
Now why do you think that is?
Simple, authoritarian collectivism requires the absence of any allegiance to anything beyond the State.
Your rights come from the State, and therefor are removable by the State.
If you think your rights come from something higher than the state, or even think that there IS something higher than the state, you will resist the state.
Atheism is a requirement for totalitarian collectivism.
Like I said before, political influence.
The Communists were blood-thirsty power-grabbers, and have always been that.
>>Like I said before, political influence.<<
And like I said before, you have your head in the sand.
Thank you!
Sloganeering is not the way to make an argument. Try again, but this time, with more effort.
Neither is disregarding facts in an argument. I gave you facts and you waved your hand stating “No way”. That’s how libs argue.
Here, read what Mr.B wrote. It will help you...
“Simple, authoritarian collectivism requires the absence of any allegiance to anything beyond the State.

So the cure-all would be to start forcing within oneself the belief in an imaginary being in the sky?
What is Paradise described in the Bible, as?
