(Former Mossad Chief)Halevy: In Iran, worst may be ahead
Jerusalem Post ^ | 06/22/09 | Etgar Lefkovits

"The future of the massive street protests that erupted following Iranian presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi's June 12 defeat and which have raged throughout the country since is uncertain, but their likely failure boded ill for Israel, and would usher in a period of insecurity and instability and strengthen the already-powerful Revolutionary Guards, former Mossad chief Ephraim Halevy said on Sunday."

"In his wide-ranging address, Halevy cautioned that the extremist Revolutionary Guards in Iran, which he said was the most powerful entity in the Islamic Republic today and a key element of Iran's nuclear program, would become even more powerful if the 2009 "revolution" failed.

"The worst could be ahead of us," he said.

Halevy said it was "simplistic" to say it was immaterial whether President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi was in power since they both would pursue the same nuclear policy.

"No one can predict what Mousavi would do," Halevy said. "Mousavi of 2009 is not the Mousavi of 1981-2."

He noted that since the June 12 elections, Mousavi had been acting in an uncharacteristic way."

Proof that Obama could have made all the difference by providing moral support to those seeking Freedom in Iran, and concrete support by supplying intel & funding to the reformists' revolution. Now the hardline theocratic extremists will clench their fist harder. They have come so close to collapse, that they will pursue nuclear weapons even more incessantly as a means to show the world they are still in control. Obama is a failure, and his weakness has placed the United State, and it's allies, especially Israel, in even greater peril.

“The difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised.”
— Barack Hussein 0bama, Jr.
0bama lied, Neda died!

0bama struck a body blow to the uprising by suggesting that protesters seeking freedom in Mousavi's name were dying in the streets in vain.
Today, I am ashamed to be an American.

And still no comment on the slaying of Neda from 0bama.

He’s absolutely right - Iran doesn’t mess around internally. Many will die from this protest/rebellion, but the seeds will be sown for an effective change years from now.

Odd... the islamic regime was able to smuggle for years arms into Iraq and Afghanistan, but we can’t channel a bunch of AK’s into Iran? Hello? Mr President?

Obama fumbled, that’s for sure. Due likely to his stuttering attempts to fit this crisis as a response to his “Cairo speech.”

The bully pulpit for freedom was abdicated to the Europeans.

It is amusing watching on the Obama sites the rock and roll of apologizing for Obama. Once they grow to believe the election results were accurate-Wham!-no less than the head of the Parliament says the results are fraudulent.

I read elsewhere that an American soldier, based near the Iraq-Iran border to intercept supplies for Al Qaida, was hinting that the border was just as porous in both directions. Iran is a mountainous country though and I’m sure the highways are heavily guarded. If the people really want and need guns, they’ll get them.

Interesting stuff. My question - I'm sure it's being asked in Qom - is that once Iran is an overt police state with Ahmadinejad in charge - what does he need the mullahs for? Or more accurately, how many does he need? If it's fewer than the current number - and I suspect it is - then not making the cut might be decidedly unpleasant.

I won't be crying for any of them. The problem with secret executions in this case is that they're secret.

THANK YOU.

I’m putting that phrase “Obama Lied, Neda Died” on a poster in my yard.

I hope the people keep fighting and never give in. This is their once in a lifetime chance. The cracks are starting.
