"Hamas authorities should immediately allow Sgt. Gilad Shalit of Israel to communicate with his family and to receive visits from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)," Human Rights Watch said Wednesday, a day before the third anniversary of his captivity. "Hamas's prolonged incommunicado detention of Shalit is cruel and inhuman and may amount to torture," Human Rights Watch said.

Hamas authorities are obligated by the laws of war to allow Shalit to correspond with his family, but during his three years of captivity, Hamas has passed on only three letters he has written and a voice recording. Neither Shalit's family nor the ICRC have been permitted to visit him.

Hamas refuses to allow the captured Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, from speaking with his family, a violation of the Geneva Convention's prisoner of war act. Yet Jimmy Carter wants the United States to no longer consider Hamas as a terrorist organization. Does that make any sense?

"Human Rights Watch demands..."

That is a curious phrase. As Stalin said of the Pope, "How many divisions does he have?" Am I the only one that notices that recent world events have rendered meaningless such shallow demands and protests? Mao was succint. "All power comes from the barrel of a gun."

And it’s only taken Human Watch 3 years to get around to issuing this statement.(/sarcasm) Don’t want to bother wasting time tracking down how fast they issue statements on behalf of Hamas butchers and other terrorists worldwide.

I would carpet bomb Hamas controlled territory until Shalit is released. That is the only form of negotiation those Neanderthals understand.
