Republicans Highly Critical of House Energy Bill
New York Times ^ | June 28, 2009 | Derrick Henry

Posted on 06/28/2009 6:51:43 PM PDT by reaganaut1

Republicans on Sunday roundly criticized an energy plan passed by the House that is intended to address global warming and change the way the United States produces and uses energy.

“You’re going to find signs on manufacturing doors, if this bill passes, that says ‘Moved, gone to China,’ “ Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Mr. Grassley, like other Republicans, said the House bill is a national energy tax that would drive manufacturers and jobs to countries with less-strict emissions standards. The bill passed the House last Friday with a vote of 219 to 212, with 44 Democrats voting against it.

...

The legislation pitted liberal Democrats from the East and West Coasts against more conservative Democrats from areas dependent on coal for electricity and on heavy manufacturing for jobs. And while some environmentalists supported the legislation, others, including Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth, opposed it.

Industry officials were split, with the United States Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers opposing the bill and some of the nation’s biggest corporations, including Dow Chemical and Ford, backing it.

On the Sunday morning talk shows, Republicans said the House legislation was doomed.

“This bill coming out of the House is going nowhere in the Senate,” Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said on “NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “This idea of climate change is real, in my opinion, and the way you solve the problem is not you have some major tax on industry and private sector.”

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi said the legislation simply made energy more expensive. On “Fox News Sunday,” Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said, “Think of it as a light-switch tax.”

Highly Critical? They better get their s*** in order.

44 Dems voted against?

Some Democrats have more brains then some Republicans.

Now we just need to find enough registered voters who have a brain in their heads and realize that GW is a scam.

They should oppose this: have you read it?

Most liberal Congresspeople haven’t...

"This idea of climate change is real, in my opinion" -- Lindsay Graham.

Yes, the idea is most certainly real. But the fact or reality of anthropogenic climate change itself is most certainly not real. There's a big difference between an idea and reality. Was this just a poor construction on his part? Or a typical democrat careful parsing, a la the Billy Jeff standard of "depends on what the meaning of 'is' is."

Don't assume the Senate will reject the bill. We need to overwhelm the Senate everyday starting tomorrow with phone calls, emails and faxes voicing our opposition to this bill and let them know they will lose their jobs if they vote for the bill. Toll free capital switchboard numbers are below.

In the CBO scoring of this bill they use one year 2020. That is for the cost of electricity. It doesn’t take into effect the cost of goods and services, or anything, but electrical rates.
Gas, and heating oil will also increase in price. They figure about 77 cents onto a gallon of gas just tax. If you have to drive to work or drive, or for work, then what will that do to your wallet. To transport materials across country becomes more expensive. All cost paid by consumer.
Is there a tax rebate for those items? I do not think there is!! As cost goes up we purchase less of items putting more and more people out of work. Also doesn’t account increased cost for food.
What this does in essence is reward non-productivity. The democrats like to give people money for doing nothing. What that does is keep them in servitude to their party. In effect they have become slaves, and it will only get worse. The master will take away food, and energy in the future. They will have nothing left, with their public goverment healthcare, they will be allowed to die. That is the reality of this all.

What the heck are you talking about? All the Republicans except 8 voted against this monstrosity. Open your blind eyes and realize there are many very good Republicans in congress fighting for the very things you want but you, and others like you, refuse to give them any credit.

We had better all hang together or we're going to continue to elect RATS and they are real trouble. Give credit where credit is due.

I forgot to add this little bit. Enviromentalist have a theory the earth is too crowded. This is their little population reduction scheme. They demorats keep saying America should take the lead. Yup, right into poverty so they can deny healthcare, all but the super wealthy will die. Ted Turner thinks only 295-300 million should be on the planet. Well I hope he kills himself it is a start.

Those "8" are all long-time, senior Republicans (RINOs) and those are the ones I'm sick of. We can never be rid of those backstabbers.

"This idea of climate change is real, in my opinion" -- Lindsay Graham.

Two inconvenient reports:

1) A suppressed and censored report from our own EPA exposes many problems with the theories and "consensus" of the populist (and now debunked) theory of global warming, and the true (and minimal) affect of human activity on the climate. The suppressed EPA report is linked here:

http://cei.org/news-release/2009/06/25/cei-releases-global-warming-study-censored-epa

2) A report from the Chicago-based Heartland Institute summarized the Non-Governmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) that attempts to use scientific and rational arguments to identify exactly what is going on in the climate and the true impact of human activity. The recently released NIPCC report is found here:

http://www.sepp.org/publications/NIPCC_final.pdf

I tried to send these to Sen Graham, but he does not accept email from anyone out of state.

You are so off your rocker. The Democrats opposed this bill because Pelosi allowed them. ALL REPUBLICANS except 8 opposed this bill. What will be doing? Will you be calling the eight tomorrow? I will be doing that. Have you written any letters to the editor yet this weekend? I’ve written five letters for my family and friends to send to papers. Show us what you’re doing. Don’t just complain.
