I think the majority of people would agree. However, there are segments of the male and female population that would accept living in these arrangements. Why not let them without the fear of Big Brother interfering?

And notice, nowadays, in every country that has gay marriage and legal abortion polygamy is technically illegal while most countries that outlaw abortion and homosexuality allow polygamy. Something to be learned there.

I think competent adults should be able to enter into any non-harmful arrangement with other competent adults that they please. But at the same time, I think polygamy would be very bad for society. Men with money and power will accumulate women, which will mean a lot of single men. And as China and India are about to learn due to their preference for male children, societies with a lot of single men are societies with a lot of unhappy men making trouble.

It may be a stereotype, but it's true - women are the single greatest civilizing influence men have. Get married and you're far too busy trying to keep your wife happy to cause problems. As Chris Rock says:

"Fellas, when you wake up in the morning, you should look yourself in the mirror and say, "F* you! F* your hopes, f* your dreams, f* your plans...f* everything you thought this life was going to bring you. Now let's go out there and try to make this b* happy."
