Going to Michigan would have been a bold move, given how the Democrats disqualified Michigan from the election.

Whether it was a brilliant strategy or dumb luck, when the Democrats disqualified Michigan for moving their primary up, they avoided having to debate the reasons why the auto economy was failing, and what culpability the Democrat former rising-star governor Jennifer Granholm played in that. Remember, it was McCain who told Michigan voters to "get over it, the jobs aren't coming back," not the Democrats who created the situation.

If Palin had gone back there during the general campaign, she would have forced that debate that never happened during the primaries.

What I liked about it was...the gutsiness, the desire to fight, not to cede anything without an effort.

Granted, one always has limited resources that need to be allocated efficiently, and it might well have been a lost cause.

But I heard someone say that there are parts of Michigan that would have been attracted to people like her and her husband in ways that McCain would not have been able to emulate.

She came across as a fighter, not a loser.

Agreed. Sarah and her husband could have made a huge difference in Michigan. Her family has more in common with the working class than McCain or Obama. What a dumb decision by McCain to not let her campaign here. I saw her and John in Grand Rapids, and I’m telling you, that crowd was there for HER.
