CODY, Wyoming - Wielding his chain saw as a weapon, a former U.S. Marine says he fought off a starving mountain lion that attacked him while he was camping with his wife and two toddlers in northwestern Wyoming.

Dustin Britton, a 32-year-old mechanic and ex-Marine, said he was alone cutting firewood about 100 feet from his campsite in the Shoshone National Forest when he saw the lion staring at him from some bushes.

Britton revved his 18-inch chain saw and tried to back away. But the 100-pound lion followed.

That Cat should have picked on a park ranger, or some hippie ecologist.

Don’t worry, after Obama sticks it to us with nationalized healthcare, count on the animal rights crowd to declare a national “right” to veterinary services”.

Doesn't one of the Dear Leaders czars believe that animals have the right to sue people?

Probably. The best thing about the animal rights crowd and the tree huggers is that since the trees and animals don’t talk, these Dr. Doolittles presume to speak for them.

And I’m just glad they haven’t arrested this Marine for chainsawing and endangered species without the proper hunting license.

Surprising that the loud sound of a buzzing chain saw did not repel the ‘Cat’ by itself.

He's lucky he had the chainsaw!

Years ago I was exploring a narrow canyon off the Escalante River in southern Utah. It was a box canyon that pinched out behind a stand of willows. I wanted to see the source of the little stream I'd been following but just as I started into the willows I looked down and saw a VERY fresh paw-print in the mud. It was definitely the track of a big cat that was just beginning to fill with water.

I suddenly lost interest in exploring and backed away as quietly as possible. I must have walked backward about a quarter mile, watching intently for any sign of movement from the willows. Luckily for me the cat wasn't hungry at that moment. I'd have been easy pickings.

no such thing as an “ex-Marine”

With the Exception of John Murtha and Lee Harvey Oswald.

Your list needs revising:

Murtha, Glenn, Ritter, Dellums, Carville, Garwood, Lonetree, Kovic, McFarlane, Dennehy, Webb, Oswald, etc. ...

He is a former Marine … why did he need a chainsaw? ;-)

In Vietnam, a tiger attacked a Marine setting up an ambush.

The Marine cold-cocked the tiger.

Yes. But of all the ways to skin a cat, chainsaw is probably the messiest.

Naaah. Distant second to a claymore...

It always bothers me when people use the shorthand. To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee, "That's not a lion - THIS is a lion." I found this bad boy about a mile from my camp near Halali, Namibia; probably about 400 lbs, and if he decided you were on the menu, well...
