n case you don't watch cable news (an excellent idea), you might have missed the explosion of stories on the birthers, those folks who are determined that Barack Obama can't be president because there's a massive commie conspiracy involving his birth certificate. Somehow very respected conservatives have decided to throw in their lot with them.
These people are nuts. If Republicans want to be a national party and not a repository for wingnut conspiracy theorists angry about everything, they will loudly denounce the birthers and move on. Say, with actual health care, climate change and economic proposals.
Here's a quick roundup of the insanity. Feel free to post more in ye olde comments (which also tends to be a repository for wingnuts):

I have said elsewhere that I’m detecting a “change in strategy” and that the leftists are actually co-opting this issue for themselves and finding it useful to derail conservatives. I’ve noticed this just recently.

Yes, it does appear to be a change in strategy and I noted that it was a “change” elsewhere. It seems to be a “developing strategy” actually. You know how some things work... you gradually come upon them or you stumble upon them. I think it may be that way with this, more recently.
I wrote the following elsewhere..., in a thread in which an article was trying to “tag” someone with this label of being a birther, while they were actually trying to distance themselves from it. It was like the article was “using” the birther designation to sidetrack the real issues that were being spoken about, by this conservative.

Well, here’s how it would work..., if you’re a conservative and you have ever said anything about the birth certificate issue, those leftists are going to know about it. And then, let’s say you’re giving some reasoned points on some legislation being pushed by Obama...
If it starts sounding too good or they can’t counter it — then it’s time to shift over to the “Obama birth certificate issue” — and the leftists will be the ones who raise it.
Then they try to paint that person *as* one of those who believes that Obama is not qualified to be President, because he has not shown a proper birth certificate.
At that point, they’ve just gotten you off your points in regards to Obama’s legislation that you’re trying to get out to the public and over into whether you think that Obama is qualified to be President or not.
The public sees and hears this, they forget all about the points you were making on the legislation that Obama is pushing and now the public thinks the whole issue was about whether Obama is qualified to be President or not.
The leftists love to get the conservatives over into that topic, because it means that this particular conservative can’t talk about the legislation that he originally wanted to talk about.
That’s how it works...
And that’s why the leftists are loving the Obama Birth Certificate Issue as a good issue for them to beat on and divert any conversation away from something else.
I think the birther issue is going to be useful to them...

There are far greater threats that the Obama presidency is doing to America than to worry about this. They are about to create a welfare monstrosity out of health care that cannot be unwound, they are taking over the major industries and defining national levels of compensation, they have begun a cannibalistic class war promising the rich will pay for all things and promising no tax accountability for 50% of the country, they have put a psycho “national sterilizer” in as the science CZAR, they are installing a wise latina racist supremacist as a Justice of the Supreme Court that blatantly and proudly discriminates against white males, they are passing a trillion dollar cap and trade debacle that will makes slaves of us, they are promoting the idea that we should pay for China and India’s CO2 emissions, they are apologizing for imagined US crimes like global warming, they have taken bribe money from convicted felons like Tony Reszko, they want our tax dollars to cover people’s elective contraceptive abortions and the list goes on and on.
There are far worse things that must be attacked because they will be impossible to undo.
