Obama Declares July 27 Korean War Vets' Day

U.S. President Barack Obama has declared Monday, July 27th, as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

The White House released the proclamation Saturday, a day before the armistice ending the Korean War was signed in 1953.

Obama said that by virtue of the authority vested in him by the Constitution, he proclaims July 27th as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. He urged all Americans to observe the day with ceremonies honoring and giving thanks to distinguished Korean War veterans.

He also asked federal departments, interested groups, organizations and individuals to fly the flag at half-staff in memory of fallen soldiers.

More than 600-thousand U.S. and allied combatants lost their lives in Korea in the three-year war.

Obama said the dedicated servicemen and women who fought to secure freedom and democracy on the Korean Peninsula deserve unending respect and gratitude from the American people.

Earlier this week, the Senate and House of Representatives both passed a bill to have July 27th marked by Americans with flags flying at half staff.

It seems this is getting more attention in Korea than in the USA.

ok, this is good, but, why would Zero sign this into being, and then expect people to ‘observe’ this holiday with less than 48 hours notice, on a Monday following a Saturday announcement - not a lot of advance notice. Something’s fishy about the timing.

While I see this as a good thing, I have concerns as to why it’s being done, right now.

Often, it’s not so important what a man says, rather.... why he said it.

Obama is a master at coming up with timely distractions, as well as smoke and mirror politics. The bastard is up to something and it’s sure doesn’t have anything to do with honoring our fallen.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to fly my flag at half-staff, because I lowered her on January 20th and she will not go up again until Obama and the dems are out of power.

“More than 600-thousand U.S. and allied combatants lost their lives in Korea in the three year war.”

Those 600 thousand + brave souls lost their lives fighting Communist aggression in Korea.

Today, a Communist occupies our own White House. Who would've thought.

I think zero is trying to take ppls mind off his “bar stool diplomacy” on race relations, actually I am surprised he has not condemned the truce, it appears we may have won the battle.. and this is not the obama way..

It just passed in the house and senate last week. He signed it into law within a few days, which is pretty standard timing for signing a bill. I’d have to blame the timing on this one on congress. Also, things have heated up with North Korea recently, so maybe Korean War veterans and/or their kin lobbied their congressmen to do something more to honor Korean War veterans. Congress just waited until the last minute to do something about it.

Probably has more to do with N.K. than the USA. Perhaps it is a covert 'Obama invitation' for a beer in the White House; having duly insulted Hillary-the-Pensioner?

Or; irrespective of Hillary; this is Obama's version of bombing an N.K. aspirin factory. (Needs to generate some serious 'Presidential quality' per NK; Media - and Military. He did not mean what he said about VICTORY - either.)

Whatever the case; why JULY 27th. . .the day BEFORE the Armistice was signed?

(. . .something like a 'back-handed compliment?)

“why july 27th?”

Perhaps so that all 60 states could get on board. :)

Great News. I wonder why it took this President to do this though. Seems strange. I wonder who brought this up to him. Still very good news though.

thanks for the info about the bill last week. My USO calendar has the day already duly noted, so I’m a little confused why Zero (congress?) needs a separate proclamation ‘declaring’ the day a holiday when it already is? (proclamations ‘recognizing’ the existing day were issued by both the Clinton and Bush administrations). Maybe the wrong choice of wording is used in the article (or press release)?

I’ll have to look up the bill you mentioned that passed last week to see if it changed the status to a federal(pay) type holiday, or just what is so different...I still think Zero’s timing blows, tho.

Instead of declaring a special day of honor, why doesn’t the Liar in Chief put some money into benefits for all of our men and women who have served? Like maybe fixing the VA hospital system?

Oh wait...he’s probably going to really fix the hospital system with his ObamaCare plan. Never mind.

“Obama said that by virtue of the authority vested in him by the Constitution”

The Constitution does not empower usurpers.

Re: U.S. President Barack Obama has declared Monday, July 27th, as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.

And July 28th, all these Vets will attend their mandatory 'End of Life Options' ObamaCare meeting... where they will be told, "Sorry, your only option is death. Here's your pill."

How can it be a distraction if few people even knew about it?

I can see that the news has made it all the way to Korea. ;>)

For me, it’s tough to tell when it will get out more, but I believe it will. I do find it curious that he waited for a Friday news cycle to put out something that is for the very next Monday!? He has something up his sleeve in every thing he does.

BTW... Very nice photography!
