Cash for clunkers program is car genocide
Washington Examiner ^ | 07-28-2009 | Kiki Ryan and Jeff Dufour

LaHood sounded a bit vicious in explaining the process, describing it as essentially a “murdering” of the car.

After a deal is made with a car dealership, sodium silicon is poured onto the car, the engine then fogs, and is towed away, he explained.

“The car is dead,” LaHood said. “We kill the car.”

250,851,833 - 222,222 Clunkers = 250,629,611 cars left in America.

Typical liberal feel good program that is more for show than effect.

Would this process work on liberal politicians as well?

Actually if the Baraqqis stay in office long enough, they’ll accomplish that via a 2 prong strategy.
Huge increase in fuel price via Cap N Tax.
Massive new federal vehicle registration tax based on fuel economy rating.

I want to know the color distribution of the paint finishes on the cars consigned to this program. Is there a disparate impact on cars of color? If this can be documented the program can be legally challenged under Title IX.

Only the government can come up with an idea this stupid. I think they actually get training for coming up with dumb ideas.

This is just a knockoff of the gun buy back programs.

They’re not all going away, you have to buy a NEW car to get the benefit and I sure as heck am not going to buy a new one. I have 3 old clunkers that would get the maximum but I still don’t want a NEW car.

“I understood the point and wish you did.”

What part of my answer suggested that I didn’t? Don’t be so narrow minded.

Once again, a dolt writes an article. Sodium silicon is poured INTO the cars engine through the oil filler and the engine runs until it dies.

Most reporters - and writers - can't do math or science.

The local paper here (Indiana) surveyed dealers.
It appears the typical “clunker” trade-in is a pickup with 300,000 miles worth $1000-$1500. In reality there’s not much value above scrap metal in a vehicle like that.

How much, “carbon-producing” energy is used to crush the cars, grind the metal, then re-melt and re-cast into new cars or new car parts. Sounds about as efficient as processing corn into ethanol.

“I still don’t want a NEW car.”.....

They want you to buy a new car so they can slam you with $3000 car tag renewals!....Obama and his green machine can go to hell!

You can’t get much of a truck with this stupid program. The vehicle you buy has to get a combined 22 mpg to qualify. I’ve got a small SUV with a V6 and it doesn’t get 22 combined.

Unless the govt is going to underwrite the freight cost to send them to Chitown, the scrap metal value doesn’t merit the transportation cost of sending them out of state.

“Have you seen one of the “Smart” cars on your streets yet?”

I’ve actually seen Smart Cars on the autobahn here in Germany...with Beemers, Audis and Mercedes blasting past them. Not to mention the truckers from Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Talk about wanting to commit suicide.

Actually I believe reprocessing metal scrap is much cheaper than mining ore. That’s how scrap metal dealers make a profit. Maybe someone on here with expert knowledge can chime in.

I posted this same sentiment in another thread yesterday, but I can’t help but repeat myself. This program destroys the capital of the country, using borrowed money to do it. This program makes the country poorer.

I don’t remember which stupid idiot from 0bama’s menagerie suggested we paint our roofs white but following that reasoning shouldn’t the new ones be all white?

The dealers are having a tough time with this. Having to take in perfectly good cars, pick-up or SUV and then destroy it when it could still be used or donated or re-fitted. Something. It’s really unforgivable.

I looked into this in hopes of getting a better deal on a new pickup, but the rules are rigged to the point where you can only benefit by buying a death trap.
