There are those who say [Katie Couric-type intro statement] ...

that Kay Bailey has been losing her mind for quite some time.

Yeah. When she first started in Texas politics, KBH was pretty cool. Over the last few years, she's gotten odd. Sometimes people get this way as they rise in power. Most of us keep our weirdness in check because a lot of people can tell us no. When we get to a position where we're surrounded by "yes" people, our eccentricities start showing. She may also be having some age related mental issues.

On her call for Perry to leave the race, once Perry canned the Trans-Texas Corridor, his popularity started bouncing back. She may be looking at internal polling that shows her losing, and she's looking for a graceful way out. Perry lost popularity when he quit toeing the conservative line. People in Texas won't go to the left of Perry.

A quick note on Kinky, as he's been making noise about another run. Kinky is a joke with a couple of good quotes. You can get the equivalent of Kinky's platform by walking into the Mule Lips Bar, buying any drunk a double bourbon and asking him how to fix government. As proof, he said if he was governor he'd make Willie Nelson his energy czar. Willie's a seventy some-odd year old singer who's been stoned every day for the last forty years and who's only claim to energy knowledge is underwriting a fuel called Bio-Willie that as far as I know was sold at Carl's Corner and no place else. Carl's Corner is another Texas oddity. It's a Truck Stop that incorporated itself and became a town.
