Thanks. I’m heading to the local feed store first thing Monday morning and the hardware store next. Then on to Walmart for some vacuum seal stuff.

Have been so preoccupied with the Deathcare and Tax and TRade bills that didn’t see this one.

Glenn Beck has been talking about that problem for the last week or so. Flood the system so we can't pay attention to everything.

Well those bastards did it. We were so focused on Deathcare, the bailout for the cash for clunkers, crap and trade, that we completely forgot this POS bill was sitting in limbo.

They want to start a war, and going after our food is the best way to do it, next to going after our guns.

It’s getting to the point that I am begging to be either woke up from a crazy dream or believe maybe I am loony with a tinfoil hat.

The best source for dehydrated supplies and other goods of that nature is USA Emergency Supply...

https://www.usaemergencysupply.com/

That is a good place to start looking. I also recommend that you start shopping around on line for books on how to prepare for any number of emergencies. There are a number of ways that things could go south on us so it is prudent in my view to be prepared to survive in place. My home gives me more assets to survive, even damaged, than any refugee camp would.

It is important for you to find a plan that works for you, as opposed to just buying someone else’s plan, and hoping you can adapt it to your needs. Just buying a cubic yard of MRE’s might be simple, but you’ll get really tired of those entree’s after a very short time.

Think in terms of the acronym “OAR”, for Organize, Acquire, Rotate...

For example, I just got another batch of oxygen absorbers that we’re using to protect buckets of dried goods and putting into our vacume bags to remove any traces of O2. Doing that alone extends the life of your stores. USA Emergency Supplies ships quickly and their prices are very reasonable as compared to other products that are out there. Do some independent surfing and you’ll see.

My biggest immediate problem was water storage, and I put together a fairly simple and inexpensive system to harvest rainwater off the roof of my shed. Right now it keeps the waterbill down when I water the garden. In an emergency I have four 55 gallon plastic (food grade) barrels for immediate water storage. I have room for and will add at least another four barrels by this fall.

And yes, we are avid canners here too. We have collected a large assortment of jars, and we keep 1000 new seals in the emergency stores. We live in a great area for fresh produce, and there is nothing like a jar of fresh stewed tomatoes on a cold winter night...

I’m always open to any suggestions...

Thanks for the suggestions - I did some of this back during the 2000 meltdown worries. That proved unfounded. Fortunately I was not stuck with loads of stored food - I had just done some minimal stocking up.

For this....who knows?

We have 3 sections of farmland. Among many friends who have lots of land. The problem will be seed licensing, transportation, and regulatory cost.

No more cheap food.

Corporate Ag has been hammering at this hard for years. This must be stopped.

You think the oil embargo years ago was painful. Food will be much much worse.

There will be a War over this.

I was talking to a neighbor today and mentioned that we live in crazy times. Every day it seems like another big change turns one or another of our major industries upside down. My neighbor shook his head sadly and said, "Yeah, 8 years with the wrong guy in the White House really screwed us, huh?"

Oh, did I mention that I live in Massachusetts??

“I just read that food “facilities” have to test their soil for radiation and such.

How much is food going to increase from this? Not that I want radiation in my food, but you know what I mean.”

Hard to tell, I am not an expert on food economics. A lot depends on where the threshold is set for “radiation” and what kind of testing is required. A full soil analysis would put a lot of small producers out of business. Since moonbats like Dingel are completely unaware that soil is naturally radioactive to some extent, I would fear the worst; that is, a regulatory requirement so extreme it could be used to shut down virtually any producer at the whim of an FDA inspector.

GUYS!! I have been packing up SHTF stuff for months now and there is one thing that I feel the need to share with you guys even though you probably already know, but just for the ones who hadn’t thought of it.

VITAMINS.

Go to a Walmart, online discount vitamin supply, etc.. and buy all you can of the multivitamin. Spring Valley has an inexpensive Prenatal vitamin with EXTRA stuff in there so if you aren’t in a position to eat all the vitamins you have a cushion. Vitamins are supposed to supplement what you are eating, but in a SHTF time, you may be getting rice and beans.

So please buy as much as you can in vitamins.

I’m worried about a few of the libs in my family, one of them is my daughter, mother of my 3 grandsons. So even though she still isn’t listening to me, they won’t starve.

Thanks you bring up some things I had not thought of though I am pretty well on the road to being prepared having moved out to acreage and good storage space, garden, etc. but would not have thought of oxygen absorbers.

We have a very good deep well thank goodness. I have been meaning to purchase a dehydrator I will definitely do that soon.

Thanks for the tips.

...“Turn in your guns, we will give you food”...

Government controlled health care will take care of that.

Once the feds declare guns in the home a health hazard and refuse to grant coverage to gun owners and their dependents, we'll turn in our guns voluntarily in order to receive medical care.
