General Motors Co. predicted Tuesday that its Chevrolet Volt rechargeable electric car will get 230 miles per gallon of gas in city driving.

Maybe when its going downhill off a cliff into the grand canyon imho!!

Personally I DONT BELIEVE IT FOR A SECOND!! This statement coming from Government Motors (or 0Bama Motors if you prefer) has as much truth as 0Bama saying that its a moral & right thing to do for the country to have nationalized Healthcare and there is nothing to worry about!!

I would really be surprised if a) it wasnt a 800 pound dressed up golf cart that can actually be safe to drive on the interstate and b) it can really get 60mpg in real world driving and not on some selected routes that perfectly matches what they want us to believe.

230 MPG may be possible, since it is powered by flying pigs.

can it pull a mesquite stump in Tx?

No, but it can probably pull a mosquito's rump in FL!

Make an application to Orange County Choppers, Montgomery, NY.
You would have a great job and we could watch you on TV!

And a whopping 40 mi range? On a “good day”?

But it has an eight horse Brigs & Stratton with a pull cord for the bad days...

Hate to say it, but it is less now, than I was paying, when I was working.

What I paid in two weeks, is now less than I pay in a month.

Had to pay through the nose, because I wanted to cover Mrs. Springman.

Well, time to go to bed, talk later, goodnight.

It is a deceptive practice for a company to say this.

Just read the article posted to Drudge. Not once did they mention how much MONEY it costs in electricity to get that 230 miles.

No, EPA only repeated what GM said - measurement is if you use a DRAFT EPA test.

And if the driver goes 300 miles, the fuel economy would be just 62.5 mpg.

That's a little better than the real-world mileage of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI wagon (Deisel). Not bad for a car with half the interior room and 1/4 of the driveability.

The sad thing is that if they reduced the battery storage to 4 miles, they would probably get an honest 70 mpg, shave about $15,000 off the price and have the performance of a sportscar.

A series hybrid is a great way to build a high performance car with great economy. Until electric storage improves trying add significant battery-only range will only reduce economy, increase price and make it sluggish.

But then again, it is a government designed car now.

‘Cause electricity just comes out of the wall socket without any type of generation or loss of efficiency in it’s conversion to electical power.....
