Hey, I was just speculating. It looked to me like the "him" at the end of the second sentence was a reference to the "little bastard" in the one preceding. And since that word is hardly limited to literal applications...

Just imagine that an Ex Republican Senator Fathered a Child out of Wedlock, said his best friend was the Father of the child, lied about the Affair and Child’s Paternity to his Cancer afflicted Wife as well as the Public and was suspected of using Campaign Finances to bribe the woman involved.
