His attempt to tie a lack of black visitors to slavery is ridiculous, but I think he was probably led to make a stronger statement than he really believes by the “journalist.” He doesn’t seem like an angry racemonger to me.
Me! Me! Me! I know! We need a National Parks Diversity czar and a tripling in federal funding of PBS so they can create multipart series (hosted by Gwen Ifill and Skip Gates, among others, of course) that will encourage African Americans to go to national parks. Kind of like the “stay in school” ads, but more urbane and erudite. It’ll be great.

we have now a guy who says that blacks don’t like parks because, I guess, they are about 150 years old by now, and remember being a slave and poor.
Heck, my parents remember picking cotton and tobacco all day and being poor. the blacks have not got a lock on that. BUT, we never used it as RACISM
