Chuck DeVore, a California assemblyman seeking to challenge Sen. Barbara Boxer in the 2010 U.S. Senate race, on Thursday blasted his potential rival for the Republican nomination, Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, as a "dilettante" and "rich moderate" who couldn't win statewide.
He also contended that Boxer was vulnerable in a general election due to her high negatives and rising unemployment.
"Never in California's history has a self-funded dilettante ever won any top office, Governor or Senate," the candidate said this morning at a breakfast sponsored by TAS and Americans for Tax Reform, when asked about a potential primary challenge from Fiorina. DeVore pointedly told attendees that Fiorina was fired from Hewlett Packard and from the McCain campaign for making several gaffes. He criticized her for supporting the financial bailout and said her views on most policy issues were unknown. Moreover, he questioned whether Fiorina's wealth, which he estimated at around $40 million, would even allow her to self-fund in a state such as California, with a population of 37 million and many expensive media markets. He also took issue with Sen. John Cornyn, chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee for "already making up his mind" to support Fiorina, even though she hasn't declared her candidacy.
DeVore described himself as a movement conservative with a libertarian streak on issues concerning civil liberties and law enforcement. DeVore had previously worked in the aerospace industry for thirteen years, and served in the Defense Department under President Reagan...

The only reason Carly would be a better choice than Barbara is because ANYBODY would be a better choice. Other than that I have nothing good to say about her.
I beg to differ... Obama also throws like a girl.
If we "need" more women in the U.S. Senate, let's get some conservative women (ala Michelle Bachmann, R. Minn.)
Anyone going to start a DeVore ping list??? I would like to be in if so.
Indeed. This guy is sharp.
I thought Arnold was also running for this seat.
By the way, Carly won’t be self funded. She graduated from Stanford and the ties she made there will assure a big pool of money coming from there including yours truly.
Ok, how many “self funded dillitants” have run ?
I can only think of one and that was Huffington’s husband against DiFi and that election was within 1%.
I like DeVore more than Carly, but I question whether he can beat Boxer. Before I get flamed, here are my reasons for supporting Carly as of now. 1. The Senate Majority leader gets that title by having his members in the majority; if there were 51 RINO Senators, Reid would be out of a job. 2. Even losing the 60 supermajority would be a blow to the rats. 3. It would be impossible for a RINO to be worse than Boxer.
That's exactly what happened when Specter last ran, got Bush, Rove and even Rick Santorum (who wound up losing his seat because he stood up for Specter and conversely against the conservative in the race, precisely because "Specter had the better chance to WIN.")
There comes a time when conservatives need to quit supporting liberal/RINOs because "winning is better."
What "we" get when "we" support a RINO because "we'd" rather "get behind the guy/gal with the better chance to win" is a terrible choice who neither stands with us (they never do) and they always side with the liberal democRATS (McCain, Snowe, Collins, Specter - when he still considered himself a Republican), etc.
Liberals are birds of a feather, they are more comfortable with one another, be they Republican or democRAT liberals. They actually dislike conservatives and can always be counted on to vote against most of their constituents and even their President, when he's a Republican. One need only look to John McCain, he was always more comfortable with his democRAT friends (and the media) against his Republicans in DC.
It's high time to quit thinking that a RINO is better than nothing.
Vote RINO and what you get is nothing!
What part of her political policy are you most enamored with?
DeVore/Carly update
His staffer got all excited, but I've never heard from DeVore.
I am not Californian, but yes, I would love to see them debate (what are the chances of that)?
It is more personal than political. I mean if an unemployed dry wall hanger shared all my personal political views and ran for congress, it does not mean I would support him over a more accomplished person who shared only most of my political views.
In this case, I appreciate the fact that Carly has been a republican all her life, I appreciate her contributions in excess of 100,000 to the various republican committees and McCain/Palin campaign in 2008. I appreciate the personal efforts she made with recruiting women to the gop. I’ve met her personally and I like her.
Sorry, your argument is wrong. McCain stands with us 85 percent of the time, Collins about 75, Snowe about 65.
