Mad as Hell Doctors to promote universal health care at forum

SEQUIM -- Health care reform will take center stage in a public meeting Tuesday as a group of Oregon physicians calling themselves "Mad As Hell Doctors" will promote universal health care and discuss the current proposals for reform.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Sequim High School Auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

"We have, for the first time, a group of physicians that is stepping forward in this moment of total confusion and fear that's been fomented on the health care issue," said Bill Kildall, coordinator of Reform Health Care Now, which is sponsoring the event.

"These doctors will give us their personal opinion in regard to what the problem is, and what the solution is."

Kildall is expecting a packed house from "Bremerton to Forks" in an auditorium that seats about 670.

'Educational' meeting

He does not expect it to resemble the contentious political town hall debates on health care reform.

"This will not be a 'political town hall meeting,'" Kildall said. "This will be an educational town hall meeting. We don't anticipate any kind of disruptive behavior."

People are invited to e-mail questions or personal stories -- focused on denial of coverage from unemployment, pre-existing conditions or other pretexts -- to qorstory4docs@yahoo.com.

Submissions must be no longer than 250 words.

"I've received questions and several personal stories," Kildall said.

Doctors on tour

"Mad as Hell Doctors" is kicking off a 20-city "care-a-van" in support of a single-payer health care system Sept. 8 in Seattle.

Why doesn’t this group of doctors start their own co-op and charge the patients a flat fee that covers ALL services? Nobody is stopping them.

“They are 100% strongly against Obamacare even though it would greatly increase their income.”

If they have a large medicaid / medicare patient base then maybe it would increase their income, But more and more Doctors are not accepting these anymore. The cost of fileing the claims is killing them, and like you said meidicade and medicare pays about 40% of what they would normally get. My Father-in-Law is a Doctor, and he is so much against the Obama plan his head is about to explode.

I serve on a state medical board and I asked Senator Lincoln to come to the medical board and societies to get real insight onto what is really going on in the health care field. They all “work in the trenches” with real patients; they above anyone else knows better what is going on within any state and their input could be invaluable, plus many of us have actually read HB 3200 and I am scared silly as to how much power the President, ANY President would have if this passes! To prepare for our last board meeting I read 62 pounds of paper, double sided. Read every page to prepare for the meeting and I would be not honoring the oath I took to protect the people of my state without being first prepared by reading all cases, complaints, etc.

How is it that someone like a US Senator can NOT do the same! If they can't be bothered to READ a BILL how can they vote on it?

“this moment of total confusion”

There is no confusion. A Kenyan, Communist Chicago thug is attempting to ram Socialism down the throats of the American pEople and they’re telling him so. Where’s the confusion in that?

It’s clear-cut totalitarianism.

Just goes to show that a person can be smart and successful in some aspects of life, yet still be a moron in other regards.

That funny every doctor I know hates government health care and those that have their own practices don't even accept medicare patients because of the hassle and poor reimbursement. Maybe they are gonna round up some more fake doctors like they did for that townhall.

Their big problem is the illegal population. They run up millions in bills. They pay nothing. Medicare at least pays something.

No. Oregon does not have single payer.

But the state medicaid program was redesigned several years ago to expand the number of people it (we) could afford to cover. The foundation of the plan is rationing.

Now if rationing isn't enough to curl your teeth, an industry of HMO type groups has sprang up to absorb the state medicaid money. These groups contract with the state to provide the primary care physician services, and they are paid a more or less flat rate per signed up patient. It's easy enough to see the profit in a scheme such as this comes by NOT providing care. And they don't provide care very well indeed.

When 0bama says co-ops, I think that's what he means.

I don't believe it's an exact model for the 0bama/non/care proposal. It, rather, will have all of those elements and more.

Theyhave already explained that these co-ops would be funded and run by the government, overseen by a board appointed by the President.

Thats not a co-op by any stretch of the definition.

Say, I received an answer to my first question from one of the “Mad as Hell Doctors” earlier today (Tue, 8/25):

“I’m sorry you are so uninformed but I’ll spend some time to help.

1)Read the Preamble and Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution and the dictionary.

The Welfare Clause is a most significant item of the Constitution.

My dictionary defines welfare as health, happiness, good fortune and well-being so the government, under the contract theory, is mandated by the Constitution to provide for the welfare of the people.

I’ll answer more of your letter later.”

Wow - makes you wonder why the Founding Fathers even bothered to write a Constitution.

According to this doctor’s interpretation, the federal government can do pretty much whatever it wants, so why did the founders limit the federal government with enumerated powers?

Sad.

If we lose this health care fight, we are truly screwed (please excuse the profanity).

I’m thinking that’s a ‘doctor’ I wouldn’t want treating my ingrown toenail.

S/he has no sense that the ‘dictionary’ (no doubt online) of today does not convey the meaning of the words so carefully chosen by the Founders in crafting the Constitution. “Doc” probably thinks the last decade of the 1900’s was the beginning of the homosexual era.

And s/he represents what our ‘doctors’ of the future will be .. kinda like that gal Roxana at Sheila Jackson Lee’s townhall: “I’m not really a doctor, but I play one on tv (or at townhalls)”

God help us all ... I am soooooooooo happy to be on the far end of this life and pray for what will be left for my children.
