How about Don Drysdale AND Sandy Koufax holding out in 1966 for a 3 year $1,000,000.00 SPLIT which would have come up to $167,000 each.
Willy Mays had the top salary @ $125,000.00 p/a
Sandy ended up signing for $125,000 and went 27-9 1.73 ERA
on the other hand,
Don ended up signing for $110,000 and went 13-16 3.42 ERA

What cost $125,000 in 1966 would cost about $800,000 today. Imagine trying to pay a player of the caliber of Mays or Koufax $800,000? And just imagine what a Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Mickey Mantle, etc. would be paid.
