The worlds largest and most comprehensive shooting range opens in North Las Vegas. The massive range and support facilities cost 60 million dollars to construct. The world’s largest and most advanced shooting range officially opened today in North Las Vegas with a host of dignitaries. The 60 million dollar Clark County Shooting Park is both large and comprehensive, designed to attract not only locals, but shooting enthusiasts from around the world.
Nevada’s politicians came to praise the facility along with the NRA, National Rifle Association. Nevada Senator Harry Reid spoke today at the opening ceremony for the Clark County Shooting Park. Reid was instrumental in securing land and more than $60 million in funding for the park.
Senator Reid had this to say opening the Shooting Park, “I appreciate the work of all those from Clark County, of sportsmen and sportswomen from across our state, of local law enforcement officials, and of everyone else who has shared this goal,” Reid said. “Nevadans aimed high when we set out to create the largest and most advanced shooting range in the world. But we kept a steady eye on our target. And today, with great pride, Nevada has hit the bulls-eye.” Senator Reid's comments where part of a press release in the afternoon. Wayne La Pierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association and other NRA members also attended today’s opening ceremony.
In the same release for the office of Senator Reid it quoted Wayne La Pierre,"I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with Senator Reid in our fight to protect the Second Amendment,” La Pierre said. “I can tell you no one has been a stronger advocate for responsible gun ownership than him. I am proud to join him today at this world-class facility. We wouldn't be here without his vision and hard work.
The other dignitaries attending included: Shooting Park Manager Don Turner, County Manager Virginia Valentine, Commissioner Tom Collins, Senator John Ensign, Rep. Shelley Berkley, Commission Chairman Rory Reid, Senator John Lee, and Governor Jim Gibbons.
Yeah, they should have waited because some folks don't have ammo.
What does that represent? 10% of what ACORN and SEIU are getting?
I can't believe that the NRA is falling for it.
I get at least 3 pices of mail from the NRA each week; I hope they all have prepaid reply envelopes, because that is all they will get from me in the future--- complete with a lot of unflattering words.
Doesn’t sound like they offer any training there. Also surprised that in the list printed above, the longest rifle range is 200 yds. I’d expect at least 800 in a facility as large as this.
Not sure where you are, but in Austin, TX the ammo shortage is pretty much over. Only things I can’t find are .380 and 7.62x39, and I’m sure I could if I looked harder. Mind you, the variety isn’t that great yet, and white box Win is $10 for .223 and $17 for .308, but it’s available.
The NRA isn’t “falling” for anything. This is a great thing for shooters and Reid did something right. He also may be on our side to get the antigun legislation off the schedule. We also have a chance to get rid of him and replace him with a conservative.
The NRA has a good record for getting things done unlike gun groups that are all talk and no action. The Second Amendment Foundation also has a good record for lawsuits and working with the NRA.
While some are worrying about a Civil War, revolution and buying guns and ammo, you’re concerned about a few letters in your mailbox?
They must think a facility like this was planned and built in six months.
Instead of another football or baseball stadium paid by the taxpayers to fill the pockets of the sports owners we finally get something like this and Freepers are complaining?
I suppose if this is successful and it’s repeated across the country, freepers will still whine? Instead of another gunrange closed because of the antigunners, freepers are whining and complaining about a world class gunrange?
I'm in Bakersfield CA. We don't have any huge outlets like Cabelas. I do agree it's getting better, but we're not out of the woods yet. Went looking on the net yesterday for 380's for a freind. Went to all the usual places, found some pretty good prices, but none in stock. I have about 1000 762x39's I've been hoarding.
Was that post supposed to be addressed to me? I wasn’t complaining, just expressing my surprise that a facility that size would have a maximum 200 yd rifle range. Looked into it, and the list printed in a previous post was far from complete. Range includes 500 yd and 1200 yd rifle areas.

The ‘no training’ comment was irt your ‘goodbye Frontsight.’ I think it’s an apples and oranges thing - learn how to shoot at FS, practice at Clark County. Tho’ frankly, the way FS has been sending out ‘5 for 1’, ‘2 for 1’, ‘foreclosed lifetime membership’ offers lately (”brought back by popular demand!”), they may be just a half step away from joining Teddy anyway.
Sounds like a nice facility, but Albuquerque has one nearly as nice. 200 yard rifle and pistol range, PPC range (National Championship has been held there for the past couple years), Cowboy Action shooting “town”, several bermed areas for IPSC etc..., a blackpowder cartridge rifle range complete with sillouettes out to 500 yards, and 14 Skeet fields, 2 trap and 1 5-stand. (We hosted the US Open in Skeet in 2007)
I was agreeing with you until I started ranting about the other freepers. Sorry, it’s getting to me how whiny they’re starting to be.
I’m sure this facility will have training even if it’s freelancers.
The problem with Front Sight is they never had a decent supply of water. No facility is going to do well if it’s guests are hot, dry or cold and wet. It’s hard to concentrate when the sweat is flowing into your eyes or your fingertips are freezing. There are those who think the shooting sports is still a macho test right out of “Surviver”. If anyone would take a tip from a vacation resort and add shooting, that would be a money maker. Let the wives and girlfriends learn to shoot and they can go for a massage and mudbath right after their class.
Sounds like you’re close enough to go to the Whittington Center. I was very impressed with the ranges there.
Whittington is up in Raton, about a 4-5 hour drive. Since I don’t do much rifle, the local place is fine.

Not likely. Front Sight is in the business of teaching shooting skills and defense skills.
Somehow, I think many would prefer to not be taught by a gooberment employee at a gooberment range.

This new facility has three 30 seat classrooms expandable to one 90 seat classroom. They must have some sort of plan to teach something. Give it a little time and they might be able to teach all the disiplines.
I was at Front Sight around 2005 for defensive pistol. What classes did you take?

I did not go to Front Sight. An old friend is a principle in ProFire, however.
I am merely a lowly NRA pistol instructor. Not agreeing that goobers in gooberment have a constitutional right to license carrying of guns, I still help with the licensing procedure in the belief that having more citizens aware of, and exercising their 2dn Amendment rights will result in an increased awareness of the rest of the Founding Documents.
Since much of defensive shooting instruction is about mental attitude, awareness, etc. I am skeptical that lawyers and agency inertia will compete with private owned shooting schools.
However, if the range allows other instructors, and allows instinctive shooting training, there is no reason that a facility owned by the public can’t achieve teaching excellence.
After all, the range is supposed to belong to the public.
I hope all states put in many ranges, as we are fearfully short of the status desired by Jefferson when he said that among the duties of a citizen was “to be at all times armed”.
