Ohio State Urges Fans to Show Some Respect for Navy

In ten days (I'd say ten short days, but this time of year the days are never short enough), Ohio State will open its 2009 season with a home game against the United States Naval Academy. It will mark the first time these two teams have faced each other since the 1981 Liberty Bowl, which the Buckeyes won, 31-28. Prior to that, Ohio State and Navy hadn't played since 1931.

Ohio State University wants its fans to know that this isn't exactly the Kentucky School of Turfgrass Management that's coming to town. The Midshipmen are giving up a minimum of four years of their postgraduate life serving this country in harm's way and face a brutal class load off the field. Consequently, they deserve a better treatment than hearing "YOU SUCK, 23" from five directions at once. OSU has a YouTube video saying as much (video after the jump).

Not much of a fluff schedule there..........

The point was all teams play some fluff teams in scheduled non-conference play, be it the first few games or in the middle of the season.

They are in essence pre-season games. But the payoff from those games pretty much fund the fluff school’s athletic programs.

talk to UM fans who go to ColumbASS. OSU fans, if anything, share the top choice as the biggest bunch of douchebag fans in the nation.

Sorry it’s not Rich Rodriguez. But, you can’t deny that Buckeye fans are some of the biggest aholes around. In fact, many OSU fans make Ted Kennedy look down right pleasant.

Oh, I’m not arguing that there aren’t a lot of douchebag OSU fans. U of M isn’t much better, though. I’ve had my share of (thankfully plastic, but full) beer bottles bounced off of me up at Ann Arbor. Of course, it’s what I expected when I wore my scarlet and gray...

We out here on the West Coast refer to that conference as the LITTLE ELEVEN. They were once the best athletic conference but that was a long time ago. The Big 3 Auto Makers use to have 90% of the US car Market. Strange that the both declines tract each other . I don't know what, if anything that says.

MISLEADING HEADLINE!!!! Ohio State fans always show guests in their stadium respect.

What they have been asked to do is to cheer for Navy when they take the field as hard as they cheer for the Buckeyes in order to the Middies that Buckeye nation admires and respects our military.

Go Buckeyes! Go Navy!

How about Michigan playing Appalachian State a couple of years ago? Oh, that didn't turn out so great. How about about Ohio State playing Toledo a few years back?
Anyone can cherry pick!
Let's look at some of the Little Eleven out of conference games. Oh wait I don't have time.

Alabama does open with VA Tech.

I was trying to find the pic of the “Ohio State - Property of The University of Florida” shirt I used to post a few years ago, but I can’t find it now.

Keep in mind that Woody was a diabetic who was not good about maintaining his prescriptions. The older he got the more prone he was to miss them and this would result in erratic behavior. It has been shown that he was not properly dosed during the Clemson game.

He was firey and zealous, but he was also a great and decent man who did many, many kind things for students and players, sometimes many years after they had graduated.

As opposed to the limp-wristed knobs in Ann Arbor?

Urban Meyer has a picture of Woody in his office. He idolized him, and no doubt he is a huge influence on his coaching.

I was not aware of that. Thank you for sharing. Urban Meyer was in some of my classes at University of Cincinnati as undergrads. We both graduated in the Class of `85.

Well at least Tebow did win the Heisman that year, of course he won it in the only year he didn’t win a championship.
