I am going to vote for my congressman again. She is in her first term and I have agreed with every one of her votes.
You can not do better than that.

This is great news. I am in a Texas district where a “moderate” Republican has been ensconced for years (pro-abortion, pro- embryonic stem sell research.) My sister-in-law is the campaign manager for a new up-and-coming real conservative challenger that I have high hopes for. Look for Mike Brasovan.

That’s pretty much always the case. For some reason people seem to distrust congress no matter who’s in there.

I like term limits with reservations. I think they should be restricted to two consecutive terms then ineligible for one term.

I used to pretty much agree with you, except it was one term, and NO government position for at least a year before election (IOW, no getting paid to do a job while being a full time candidate). Now I'm thinking ONE term and out.

That way you screw up plans of career politicians but can regain a good congressman the majority of the time.

How many real keepers are there? I'll bet there's enough great people to replace them. Besides, lots of people think Kennedy was one of the ones "we" needed to keep.

Of course, the system would have to be radically changed, with things like seniority out the window. It'd have to be much simpler so that it wouldn't take a whole term just to learn how to play the game. Sounds good at first, but then they'd have more time for doing their real job (maybe we'd need to shorten the sessions, which is a great idea anyway -- do we need so many freaking laws that these people need to be in DC most of the time???).

One problem with term limits, especially ONE term, is with no "need" to get re-elected, there's nothing to keep them beholden to the interests of the people they represent.

Uh no.

I like my congressman. He's a good man. Along with a few others.

Communism is the opposite of the Constitution. Communism is the “enemy” of the Constitution.

If you replaced them all it would do no good unless the fat cat people that own them were cut-off as well.

But they won’t. They will say my guy is great it is the others that need replacing, thus, nothing will get done. A few will go, but you will never see 25% or more go at once.

What seems to be happening for the past several election cycles is, the good guys are thrown out and replaced by bad guys and the sitting bad guys get reelected.

The throw-the-bums-out mantra has only worked against Republicans.

How crazy is that?

I did always vote for our GOP senator but I’ve never, ever voted for the Dim senator, but I know what you mean. It happens all the time.

Yes, it would be worse. The country would be run by New York, LA, Chicago and Houston. The difference between the governmental needs and attitudes of large cities and the rest of the country have never been more apparent than they are now. The cities “need” everything taken from the rest of the country and given to them, the country(side) declines to go along with that thinking.

We aren’t dealing with communism in Congress, or even socialism: we’re dealing with routinely corrupt politicians who’re expanding government so they’ll have more ‘product’ to sell. This goes for Republicans as well as Democrats, the only difference is who they sell the government to.

Facing reality, even if it hurts, is the first step in defining the problem, followed by possible solutions.

If a person gives up in the face of great odds and harsh realities, then that person is no help to the definition nor the solutions, and needs to move aside remaining neutral.

Lobbying isn't as much a problem as unaccountability. Neither is term limits.

May I suggest the following:

1) the Congressman and Senator would have to work in another field (but not law);

2) the Congressman and Senator would be in DC ONLY from June 1 through September 30, WITHOUT any AC at their DC abode or in the Capitol;

3) Bills COULD NOT be more than 100 pages long, would have to be stand alone, and the Congressman and Senator would have read and UNDERSTOOD the bills and their implications;

and finally

4) the Congressman and Senator would have to explain the nonsense they had just passed to their fellow coworkers and bosses every October 1 of each year (right before the bosses’ annual reviews of the Congressman and Senator).

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Bill Ayers is a stone cold Traitor, by definition. Obama is right behind him, not having openly levied war against the United States. But it does say "or".

I agree with the 57%, but it needs to be mandatory, the Republicans can put term limits back on the agenda are they can pound sand forever.
