The last 45 of my 66 years I’ve spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here’s the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it…It’s not about persona, style, rhetoric, it’s about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I’m about to mention here.
1- Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took the Governor’s office away from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, she tore into the Republican’s “Corrupt Bastards Club” (CBC) and sent them packing. Many of them are now residing in State housing and wearing orange jump suits. The Democrats reacted by skipping around the yard, throwing confetti and singing “la la la la” (well, you know how they are). Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar. But while you’re thinking, I’ll continue.
2- Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies here. So, she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called “ACES”. Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah told them “don’t let the door hit you in the stern on your way out.” They stayed, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy to being filthy rich. Of course the other huge international oil companies meekly fell in line. Again, give me the name of any other governor in the country that has done anything similar.
3- The other thing she did when she walked into the governor’s office is she got the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as “pork”. She went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in the “when-hell-freezes-over” stack. She let locals know that if we need something built, we’ll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor’s jet because it was extravagant. Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor’s cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided security force (never mentioning—I imagine—that she’s packing heat herself). I’m still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.
4- Now, even with her much-ridiculed “gosh and golly” mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built which will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America. No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn’t impress you, then you’re trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.
5- For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson. They made excuses the entire time why they couldn’t start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment. No governor for 30 years could make them get started. This summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out. They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.
6- President Obama wants the nation to be on 25% renewable resources for electricity by 2025. Sarah went to the legislature and submitted her plan for Alaska to be at 50% renewables by 2025. We are already at 25%. I can give you more specifics about things done, as opposed to style and persona . Everybody wants to be cool, sound cool, look cool. But that’s just a cover-up. I’m still waiting to hear from liberals the names of other governors who can match what mine has done in two and a half years. I won’t be holding my breath.
By the way, she was content to to return to AK after the national election and go to work, but the haters wouldn’t let her. Now these adolescent screechers are obviously not scuba divers. And no one ever told them what happens when you continually jab and pester a barracuda. Without warning, it will spin around and tear your face off. Shoulda known better.

And then, when she felt that the borking the national press was dumping on her was interfering with her family life and her running of the state, she did the very unpolitical thing and resigned. Find any other politician who picked duty and family over personal political power.
As long as she doesn’t go all Jewel on us, I can still see a lot of local support, except for the loud ones who won’t support her no matter what she may do. I do know that the genie is going to keep popping out the bottle no matter the attempts to put the lid back on. The national folks don’t have a clue about the Alaska way of doing things and it is going to flummox them totally.

She has to do more than that. She has to SUE them. That’s the only thing these creeps understand: lawsuits and loss of money having to defend themselves.

The fact is that until Palin, Alaska was run by the oil co’s for the oil co’s. Since the Alaska pipeline was built, the major decisions were made at Exxon’s headquarters. Palin changed all this and got a larger royalty to boot. They had been talking about the trans-american natural gas pipeline for 30 years. Until recently it was the largest untapped ng find in the country. Palin got the plan through. She had to negotiate the deal with Canada on her own. In addition, I’m assuming from what I was told that she has written her own material on facebook and the blogs. Well, she’s a pretty damned good writer as well.
Contrast her accomplishments with the Bamster’s. What the hell has he accomplished other than eating lobster non-stop and getting lady Michelle a couture wardrobe, oh and buying his kids a dog.

The average American is sick of lawyers and lawsuits. They do not want a litigious leader, just a strong one.
yeah especially since she made the case for tort reform. :)
A strong one fights back not just with words but with legal action when defamed over and over again. You forget she and her people promised just that if the attacks still would not stop after she resigned. Her PAC put out statements they would consider lawsuits every time she was unfairly attacked, maligned, accused of wrongdoing.

There was a wild rumor floating around that elsewhere on the internet some group is talking about a contract against Sarah if she becomes too vocal against Obama, if she gets too much attention in any way such as Glenn Beck or Limbaugh.
Since I happen to live in Wasilla Alaska and about 11 miles from where she lives all I can say is that she did have her family threatened and so have I recently, in her case it was the MSM, in mine it was more personal and is from a local Child Services agency.
I think she will for the time being go back to family basics, I have, I am locked and loaded for bear and have to be on a constant watch against strangers approaching my kids, her kids had some problems notably her son being with some other boys and slashing all the tires at a yard full of school busses last year if I remember right, its known around here and is shushed up.
Its dirty laundry like that that can change a persons direction in life if its used wrongly, I suspect somebody was willing to go live across America like CNN all about an event such as that.
In final thoughts its a down right dirty world of politics and frankly I think Sarah should stay out of it, only way for her to succeed would be as she has done here is send all the cutthroats packing and into orange jumpsuits.
Unfortunately Washington DC does not have enough orange jump suits.

Thus far she is the only 'individual' on any stage that can list on the job accomplishments. The rest might talk the talk but I have not seen much walking the walk. She has not sought to enslave her citizens and sell her soul to feather her own nest. But she will have to demonstrate a world of difference in her thinking than what lord McCain continually demonstrates is his thinking.
The GOP 'big tent' experiment turned into one expensive TARP. Time will tell.

That was several years ago, and it was mentioned during the campaign, as another way to try to make her look bad. That son started serving in Iraq last September.
The only time she demanded an apology was when Letterman joked that her junior high school daughter got “knocked up” by a baseball player when she was in New York with her mother.
False. Lauer asked her if she wanted an apology from him. She declined and said that he didn’t have to apologize to her, but if he wanted to apologize, he should apologize to all the young women of America.

Thicker skin, hell! She was handling the politics, until reforms she promulgated (that were subsequently adopted) were turned frivolously against her. Her ONLY mistake as governor was helping push a law without properly researching its enormous potential for rabid abuse.
Because of these frivolous lawsuits, the people of Alaska were being deprived of her time and her family was deprived of their money. I don’t know about you, but 500K of my money spent for defense against merit-less lawsuits is a little more than my family could afford. Unlike Kennedyesque liberals and country club “moderate” Republicans from blue states, the Palins aren’t financially wealthy.
She can beat the chosen one head to head. He knows it too. The filthy democrats fear her like no other.

When you're talking about responsible people, such as doctors, having their livelihoods destroyed by lawsuits you are correct.But when you are talking, as in this case, about professional complainers getting a dose of their own medicine, I think that is a different matter entirely. I think that the problem has been that we have NOT sued when the professional complainers have had it both ways. They not only want unlimited freedom, they want to be treated as nobility. They want to control the public discourse and drive any opposition out of the public forum.
I say it's spinach, and I say the heck with it.
