Hey, we don’t want no trouble around here...not in any language. (Borrowed from Tombstone.)

“The Mexicans here would rather have their own TexMex country than join up with the scumbags that run the country they left.”

You cannot classify people by race. My son-in-law is 1/2 Hispanic, a Harvard Law Grad and a fairly conservative Republican. And I could not be more proud of him if he were my own son. But he is not as conservative as my daughter.

I know there were a lot of Hispanics who voted for Obozo, but they are not all like that.

Would someone please tell me when “Hispanic” became a race. I attended anthro classes in the mid 60s and I must have missed the updates.

I think the real problem is that he is trying to cover something that he, himself, knows is very complex, but is giving the readers digest version.

Well, that's sort of what I said. We need to include them as part of Texas (enlist) rather than drive them away .. toward Mexico. If we start out assuming that they will want to join up with Mexico (which as I said.. most don't want to do) we will lose the state.

That said, the Hispanics around where I live don't care much for Texas. Mexican flags dominate... and refusal to learn English (the gringo language) is common. Around here, its not a minority that identify more with Mexico. But, I bet there are more 1st generation Mexican immigrants in Houston than in El Paso... where you have Hispanics who have been part of Texas from the very start.

>>He might be right about a US collapse, but he’s dead wrong about how the breakdown will fall out.

It won’t divide into neat categories like he drew — it’ll be urban vs. rural, plain and simple.<<

For the most part, that is how I see it, except the suburban areas will be a bit “grey”. It may end up being the rather painful line between the two.

Exactly!

When the USSR collapsed, the devastation was largely brought on by a people so used to being told what to do and when to do it, that they didn’t know how to fend for themselves.

Americans are a free, independent people used to pulling themselves up by the bootstraps. We won’t stand around in bread lines crying about the lack of essentials. (Well the city folks and project dwellers just might.) We’ll roll up our shirt sleeves and get to work. Necessity breads creativity. We are nothing if not creative. And we’re the most generous people in the world. We won’t let our friends and neighbors suffer. We’ll come together and we’ll succeed, again.

This fellow has NO IDEA what Americans are about.

Its a race as long as affirmative action programs gives them scholarships and special give outs. I’ve been wondering how they prove whether one is Hispanic or not. What is to stop me from declaring my son a Hispanic for Scholarship reasons?

Hispanic is not a race. But Part Spanish might explain it better.

Bad habit.

You have to be careful who you describe as “Mexican” or “Spanish”, in some circles there is a big difference. I know some naturally blond blue eyed ladies who would take offense to being called “Mexican”. Cultural issue.

Boy did you ever nail that.
The russkies were made dependant on their govt for everything. Housing, food, fuel, and their jobs. When their system collapsed, it collapsed because it was based on a complete lie. The ruble was a worthless currency on the world market. The russian wheat fields make ours look like postage stamps, but we were shipping them wheat. Their whole system was a giant ptomken village. This goofball is looking at our country through his experience and has no clue what he is talking about. As for the elitists/urbanists, they are making their own beds. The boys scouts have a hell of a motto, be prepared.
