Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of '18 Kids and Counting' expecting baby number 19

They're going to have to change the name of the show again.

The prolific Duggar family, stars of the TLC show "18 Kids and Counting," are adding another child to their already overwhelming brood.

"We are thrilled to announce that we found out we're expecting our 19th child," mom Michelle Duggar told the "Today" show Tuesday morning.

The 42-year-old Arkansas mom - who has been pregnant for an inconceivable 12 years of her life - was surprised to find out she was expecting again just eight months after giving birth to baby number 18.

She grew suspicious when she had trouble breast feeding and failed to lose baby weight despite following Weight Watchers.

Michelle and her husband, Jim Bob, will actually be grandparents for the first time before their 19th kid is born.

Their oldest son and his wife are also expecting. Will it be strange to have a grandchild older than her own baby?

Not for Michelle Duggar.

"My sister and my mother were having babies at the same time, so I have nieces and nephews older than me," the mom said.

"It was a great time because we really have close relationships with my nieces and nephews."

The family's reality show, originally titled "17 Kids and Counting," chronicles the conservative Baptists as they raise and homeschool their offspring.

The Duggars have said they didn't set out to have such a massive family and even briefly used birth control.

But they decided after having a miscarriage that they wanted to leave the number of children they have up to God.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar - posing with Dolly Parton (c.) and their family of 18 children on a trip to Dollywood, above - are expecting their 19th child.

Good for them! Too many Yuppie couples who could easily afford kids don’t have ‘em—or just have one “trophy” child. Someone has to take up the slack.

(sigh) I didn’t realize this family had a tv show. Now each child becomes a press conference.

I love it. White liberals are turning gay, and having abortions. The Duggars are Christian conservatives. And now their first child has a baby too. Imagine if every one of 19 kids has 10 kids each. Awesome.

No sexual disfunction there. You talk about a pair of project managers. I saw a picture of their laundry room. It looked like a laundrymat.

God bless them!

Our nation is corporately responsible for the killing of 50 million unborn babies....

These folks are cherishing life.....and have the means to take care of their family.

They are not Jon & Kate!

Let's be thankful for that.

I have known lots of people who fall into this sterotype. Most galling was one guy I used to work with (Ted). Ted had been saying for years how he and his wife were saving up a nest egg so they could afford to have a child. Both Ted and his wife worked and had good jobs, so I could never understand “affording a child” was a big issue. I pointed out that I had two kids and my wife didn’t work (and I made about the same as Ted). Then one day, Ted drives into work with a new Audi. After I complemented him on his car, he told me that they’d decided to buy a car instead of have a child. I moved on, but don’t think Ted ever had any kids. Hopeless.

Or, maybe, some people like to show a little restraint in their breeding.

I could make arguments about people who show no restraint or forethought in procreation, and saddle us all with the burden.

If a person doesn’t want kids, or only wants one, what’s it to you?

We need more Duggar families! Not only are they producing tomorrow's workers and taxpayers, but they are not just idly downloading kids -- they are raising them right, to be good Christians and model citizens. They have taken their family on mission trips to Central America. They live comfortably but modestly, and the kids all learn at an early age to pitch in and help with meals, shopping, laundry, and housekeeping. They all know how to do things for themselves.

Michelle Duggar has to be the happiest person I have ever seen.

I run into a lot of people who have pets instead of children. They admit it happily. I dont think they realize how pathetic they sound.

I like pets as much as anyone, but they are not to be compared with a child.

Her uterus fell out...OH!

The folks in this article seem relatively self sufficient, so it is their burden and no one elses.

My gripe is that I often see the WRONG people having kids—single moms or people who will require public assistance to raise their kids. In the past, the best and the brightest often had the most kids. Now they have the fewest. Sometimes (in the case of Ted) its to chase material stuff. Other times, it’s because they feel the need to minimize their carbon footprint, or some other such nonsense. IMHO, that does not bode well for the future.

But, hey, its a free society, so anyone is certainly entitled to make these decisions.

Exactly.
I’m reminded by the opening scenes of “Idiocracy”, where they examine the procreation habits of two couples.

The first is an intelligent, upwardly mobile, educated and wealthy couple. They’re first say they’re waiting for each of them to complete their Master’s degrees, then they’re waiting for the market to return, etc.

You see them aging, while remaining childless but trying.
Ultimately, the husband dies tring to “extract” sperm for in-vitro. The wife ages and remains childless.

Meanwhile, you see trailer trash copulating with multiple partners, producing offspring that procreate just as wildly. Their offspring outnumbers the intelligent by 16:1.

So much truth in that movie.
