WASHINGTON (AP) - Trumpeting economic progress to a skeptical nation, Vice President Joe Biden says the massive government program intended to stimulate and reshape the economy is reaching and exceeding goals. Nearly 200 days into the effort, Biden says it is more effective "than we had hoped." Biden's upbeat report card, to be delivered Thursday in a speech at the Brookings Institution, comes as economists say the country is slowly breaking free of the most crippling recession in decades. Yet public angst is also deepening about the cost of government intervention, and millions of people remain out of work. At the heart of President Barack Obama's agenda for an economic turnaround is the $787 billion package he signed into law on Feb. 17. The effectiveness of the two-year program is a matter of sharp political debate; Biden, the administration's point man on the issue, is aiming to show a restless public that results are tangible. "Recovery act dollars are going farther and working harder than we anticipated," Biden said in excerpts released in advance by his office. With Obama on vacation at the Camp David presidential retreat, the White House hopes Biden's message will get through on perhaps a quieter news day. Biden is up against a wary audience when he says "the recovery act is doing more, faster, more efficiently and more effectively than we had hoped." A Gallup poll last month found 51 percent of Americans wished the government would have spent less to stimulate the economy. The same poll found 41 percent thought the stimulus package was helping the economy in the short term; 33 percent saw no effect, and 24 said it was making the economy worse....

(Reuters) – A fund of hedge funds run by two members of VP Joe Biden's family was marketed exclusively by firms controlled by Texas financier Allen Stanford, charged by regulators with an $8 billion fraud, the Wall Street Journal said. The Bidens $50 million fund was jointly branded between the Bidens' Paradigm Global Advisors LLC and a Stanford Financial Group entity, and was known as the Paradigm Stanford Capital Management Core Alternative Fund, the paper said. Stanford-related companies marketed the fund to investors and also invested about $2.7 million of their own money in the fund, the paper said, citing a lawyer for Paradigm.
Paradigm Global Advisors is owned through a holding company by the vice president's son, Hunter, and Joe Biden's brother, James, according to the paper. Paradigm's attorney, Marc LoPresti, who represents Hunter Biden and James Biden, as well as Paradigm, told the paper he did not know which Stanford entity invested the roughly $2.7 million. He told the paper the Bidens NEVER met or communicated with Stanford.

Barack Obama said the Waxman-Markey carbon tax would help create "green energy" jobs in the US. He is now using taxpayer dollars to fund jobs in Spain. Obama sold the Waxman-Markey "American Clean Energy and Security Act" to Congress and the American people by saying that investment in so-called "green energy" would create millions of high-wage American manufacturing jobs. We received an E-mail from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (nonpartisan professional organization) that exposed Barack Obama as a blatant prevaricator who is shamelessly using our tax dollars to create jobs not in the United States but in foreign countries.
We wonder what rank and file union members--not union bosses who, to paraphrase Henry Ford, have never worked in a shop and whose ambition is to never have to work in a shop, but blue collar workers who actually put in eight hours of honest work every day--will do to the Democratic Party when they discover this. We encourage our readers to circulate this article as widely as possible so they will find out.

Iberdrola SA, the Spanish wind-power giant, was awarded $294 million for five projects. Spokesman Keith Grant said the grants are "crucial to pushing ahead" with U.S. wind projects.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly referred to as the “stimulus bill,” was intended to jump-start the economy in the short term and fund long-term investments. Quick funding of state-based projects to fight the recession was a major rationale for expediting the law's passage. However, six months have passed and little of that money has been delivered.
States with large per capita allocations probably expected a quick arrival of their recession-fighting funds. The state-by-state disbursement data tells a different story. When it comes to money actually paid out, many states that were promised less are getting the most. By the time the recovery money is fully paid, states with the largest total allocations will obviously be tops in terms of money received. Tell the people looking for jobs how great the economy is. My wife works in the state’s Career Center, and the place is filled with people trying to find jobs. Yesterday, Mercedes laid off more people, which is one of the biggest employers in the state, and that only increases the problem. This doesn’t even include the number of people that have given up looking for jobs. People are hurting.
